Attaching Trimmer / wall plate to wall for joists to hang off

Hello, Build has been progressing well since initial concerns with foundations, and brickwork is now up to roof level. Just wanted to check a couple of things on the ground and first floor fixing methods. Both floors are using timber trimmers / wall plates, with joist hangers for the joists...

Walls not centred on foundations - ok?

Yes - but the BCO did not check dimensions, just depth and type of earth. The alterations were made afterwards, but were to same depth. It was down to me as the customer to point out the dimensions were not correct. Reassuring on their effectiveness as a quality function!

Walls not centred on foundations - ok?

Hello, Now started our build. Builder by his own admission made a little bit of a mess of digging the trenches (lost his usual digger guy so tried to do himself), and once the digger had gone had to do some remedial work to extend the existing trenches and make sure they were positioned under...

Building an Extension within 10m of Railway Boundary

Thanks for the replies guys. I wrote the risk assessment and submitted to Network Rail on behalf of my builder, who was never going to do it. Network Rail came back a few days later with some aerial photos of the house (bit big brother) - looked like they'd been taken by a chopper. And a couple...

Building an Extension within 10m of Railway Boundary

Hello all, I've already searched the forum for this but nothing came up surprisingly. We have had planning permission for a double storey side extension. One of the planning pieces of additional information (i.e. not an actual condition) is as follows (taken directly from the application)...

Central Heating: Replacing 3/4" Steel Pipes with 15mm C

As an update I have now replaced all the pipework in branch i). Have left the floorboards up for now above any joints I made and can see (and feel when running finger underneath) no leaks. Thought job was a good un.... However boiler pressure keeps dropping (has dropped 0.3 bar since last...

Central Heating: Replacing 3/4" Steel Pipes with 15mm C

Agree. The pipe is thin walled and looked just like regular copper pipe to my untrained eye under the thirty to forty years of accumulated grime on its surface, especially when factoring in the soldered yorkshire joints. Given the advice given (I've thanked you all) I will splash out the...

Central Heating: Replacing 3/4" Steel Pipes with 15mm C

Thanks very much for the response. It is definitely 3/4" past the plastic junction (assuming I'm right that 3/4" is the 'almost' imperial equivalent of 22mm).. You are saying that the pipe should be 22mm all the way to the boiler then? Currently has 22mm out the boiler for about a metre before...

Central Heating: Replacing 3/4" Steel Pipes with 15mm C

Hi, Still doing the bathroom. Recently plumbed in the towel radiator and to my horror found that the main outward and return central heating pipes were 3/4" mild steel with copper solder ring fittings being used to connect them! Currently the pipes go under the bathroom floor to a far...

Moving a toilet approx 10inches to the left

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will try with the adjustable bend to begin with and then go from there. Definitely going into soil pipe for sink waste based upon, and not using drainage hopper.

Moving a toilet approx 10inches to the left

Currently redoing bathroom appliance at a time (first plumbing experience - thoroughly enjoying it so far!). So far have plumbed in the new shower bath and a thermostatic bar shower + done the waste pipe. So basically a fully functional new bath and shower. Still need to rip out the old bath...

    BCO Site Visits

Hi, Bit of a dilemma. Need to dig up and replace ground floor concrete slab. Believe you need to get BCO inspection for this through a building notice. Fine will do that. So far all well and good... However house has a loft conversion from before we bought it which I doubt meets...

Concrete Floor with Suspected Sulphate Attack

Hi Hotrod, Thanks for the reply. The house is an 1950's ex-council house. Many other houses on the estate have suffered similar problems with the floors. Some were replaced by the council years ago. Some occupiers/owners did not want to deal with the inconvenience of having the council...

Concrete Floor with Suspected Sulphate Attack

Hi, My fiancee and I have just bought our first house, and were aware from the point of survey that it had problems with the floor slab downstairs. The downstairs of the house consists of a lounge/diner, hallway, downstairs toilet, and kitchen. The kitchen is new and has a very flat...
