Thanks for the tip. I managed to speak with a couple of plumbers yesterday and from what I can make out, the pin can't be refitted. Looks like replacement is the only option. Definitely won't be making this mistake again!

Does anyone know how to refit the pin in a western trv. I accidentily removed it entirely when trying to free when stuck closed. Thankfully I only had a small trickle when it came out and have since pushed it back in to stop any water flow, but it is clearly not in properly and protrudes too...
