    Electric shower connection

OK - there is an isolator already in the old shower circuit, but I don't know what rating it is, and the old shower circuit is currently wired to a 45A rcd in the consumer unit. As I said, I'm going to get an electrician in to do all the wiring, so I'll get him to look at the earth bonding...

    Electric shower connection

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my shower. Whilst I'm going to get an electrician in to replace the current 6mm wiring with 10mm and to connect up the electrics (to satisfy Part P) I'm planning on doing the physical fixing to the wall and plumbing myself to save both my and the...

    Crumbling Brick

Hi, I've noticed one of the bricks on the corner of our house is crumbling; both external faces are affected. I know that you can drill out the brick and replace it, but the brick is directly below the DPC membrane and I don't want to damage it. What's the best way to deal with this?

    Conservatory Foundation

Hi, We have a conservatory that is looking particularly shabby, and I'm looking to replace it. I'd be looking to get a UPVC self build. Although I'd be looking for a similar size, I'm sure the footprint wouldn't be exactly the same. Would it be easier starting from scratch, and taking up the...

    tingly!

I've had the sparky out, and he's checked the bonding, earth into the house, and lots of other things, nothing wrong with the house electrics, so it seems that there is a problem possibly under the bathroom... I've now cut a few holes in the bathroom floor, found a fair few wires that all...

    tingly!

Hi, An odd one for you. I've just installed a new bathroom suite, and i've noticed that i get a slight 'tingling' when using the sink taps. yes, stood on wet floor bare footed. obviously an earth issue somewhere? I've not changed the pipework, however, one of the pipes has a plastic...

    Dodgy Electrics

Thanks for the responses. I've removed the sockets from the shower supply, and wired the loft light into the upstairs lighting circuit. One more question if I may; my current shower is connected by 6mm t+e, and runs in surface mounted conduit from the MCB, onto a cable tray in the loft...

    Dodgy Electrics

True. I'm at work whilst typing this, and that's another figure I was working with! 6mm really.

    Dodgy Electrics

Thanks for the replies, just for a quick aside, the spur socket is connected with the same 7.5mm twin and earth that's used for the shower.

    Dodgy Electrics

Hi. As I am looking to replace my shower soon, I though i'd check out the MCB and cabling to check it was OK for my new shower. Funny thing is, as I flicked the MCB (which is in my front room) my tv reception died. I took a look in the loft, as something seemed not quite right! It seems...

Tumble Dryers - External Condenser box.

I've seen some of these around - boxes that attach to the end of your tumble dryer hose to condense the water to save having windows / ventilation. I reckon they're easy to build. Am I right in thinking they are just a box with a vented lid, which you fill with cold water? Anyone made one...

    mystery valve

To stop anymore confusion, here's a new photo, and a new diagram. The only in/outs the boiler has are as shown. I've marked where I thnk the pipes may be coming from / going. Do i just have an odd tank? I'm beginning to think valve C needs to be open, otherwise how else would the Hot Water get...

    mystery valve

Yes, my mistake. the CH goes off somewhere, not straight into the tank (It was wearly when I drew the diagram!). So can I take from this that valve C should normally be closed? and Valve A (bypass valve) should be closed (no TRVs)? thanks

    mystery valve

It is a gas boiler system. There is a heating coil in the top of the tank as backup should the boiler die. So anyone else have an idea what the valves are, and more specifically what they do?

    mystery valve

As requested, 3 valves, A, B, C. Any Idea what each of them do, and what positions they should be in? Isnt A the Pump Bypass?
