Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my shower.

Whilst I'm going to get an electrician in to replace the current 6mm wiring with 10mm and to connect up the electrics (to satisfy Part P) I'm planning on doing the physical fixing to the wall and plumbing myself to save both my and the electricians time.

Is that allowable under Part P? I mean does the electrician have to do the whole installation, or can it be split like I suggest?

Shouldn't be a problem. Don't know if it'll save you much money though but if you have the time, why not!

Speak to an electrician about installing a 10mm² shower ciruit. It will require an isolator on route to the new shower point.

Do you have RCD protection at present?

Also your main bonding may need upgrading although if it does this is something you could do yourself if so inclined.

OK - there is an isolator already in the old shower circuit, but I don't know what rating it is, and the old shower circuit is currently wired to a 45A rcd in the consumer unit.

As I said, I'm going to get an electrician in to do all the wiring, so I'll get him to look at the earth bonding as well.
