  • Hi David, I think the builder was Bellway.

    I only got as far as pulling down the ceiling (of the smallest room luckily) before I started to observe the building method. The whole ceiling is hung below huge concrete slabs which means it's not impact noise coming down (vibrations etc surely impossible through these slabs), its more the noise OF impact, so airbourne noise, if that makes any sense?

    I am 99% sure the noise is coming down through the wall cavities, I looked at cavity insulation but the management company said no, too many horror stories there, moisture transfer etc.

    I then rang the management company and pointed out the upstairs was wooden floor, this is when the owner suddely sent his tennants rugs to put down. I don't know if the compaints or the rugs have helped but its so much better... the final card up my sleeve is of course that it it's in our leases that wooden floors are not allowed, so if it ever gets bad again this will be persued, but for now I shall'nt be hitting the owner in the pocket, much as I'd love to just out of hatred.
