    Raising floor.

The builders made a mistake by working to the top of the joists in the original house forgetting to include the height of the floorboards. As a door was at the join and a slight ramp was laid carpet hid it. Now I want to lay laminate without the door in place. I've got most of the new floor up...

    Raising floor.

I want to raise the bedroom floor to the same height as the landing/corridor so I can run laminate throughout. I can only think of two ways. 1.new chipboard throughout or 2. Add timber to the joists under the existing flooring. I was just wondering if the second option is acceptable?

    Raising floor.

The bedroom is an extension and the floor ended up 22mm lower than the corridor leading to it. At the time it wasn't really an issue as it was being carpeted and a door was at the join. Now I've removed the door and plan to run laminate through.

    Raising floor.

Hi, I need to raise the floor in an upstairs bedroom by 22mm. What's the best way? I can only think of two ways. 1.lay new sheets of chipboard on top of the existing floor or 2.lift the existing floor (most of it is loose after altering some heating pipes and electrics) and add timber on top of...

    Supporting stud wall and ceiling

Thank you. I'll take part of the ceiling down. It's better to do the job right than cutting corners.

    Supporting stud wall and ceiling

Hi, Thank you for your prompt reply. I've got no access to the space above the ceiling. The floorboards are coming up anyway to allow for the plumbing and electrics so strengthening them isn't a problem. I can remove the ceiling plaster to run some 'noggins' in to support the timber but it's...

    Supporting stud wall and ceiling

Hi, I'm about to create a non load bearing stud wall to divide a bedroom. The floorboards will be lifted and new 'noggins' will be inserted to carry the weight as the joists run the same way as the new wall. My question is what's the best way to deal with the ceiling as the ceiling joists also...

    Toughened glass for shed

Hi, I've got a very annoying kid living next door who likes kicking a football around his garden with the occasional miss kick into my garden. I've got a large shed with four windows that I would like to increase the glass strength. Any suggestions for really tough glass ? Guessing it needs to...

    Hiding a gap?

The right hand side is on the floor. I will trim it down. I will need to make sure the edges are well sealed to prevent water damage. Thanks everyone for your help and support.

    Basin waste drop

Thanks doggit. With a 1 in 40 drop that would affect the angle at the end to go up to the bottle trap. How do you overcome this discrepancy? Sorry if this is a stupid question. David

    Hiding a gap?

Thank you. That's probably the best way. I was hoping that some sort of sealing strip was available. I'll get the power plane out. Luckily I haven't started the pipework yet. Thanks again David
