Ok, the cable from the pole is dropwire the 3 yellows are steel wires that support the cable, the line could be across any two of the other wires, dependant of the BT monkey who wired the pole :wink:
Just wire these into a BT terminating box, and away you go... simple job...

For .5 of a metre it will be fine... obviously don't wrap it around the cable, but for that distance it WILL NOT affect the voice cable... I remember doing a test in my lab years ago for CAT5 data cable for mains induced RFI and it hardly measurable for a metre...
we just installed a simliar system in a vets, with 2 colour cams with excelent quality viewable over the net with a 160gb hard driver for £500, took my engineer half a day to fit it. hope this helps you...
