    Loft support for store area

No problem. A lot is under this chipboard, I’ve removed a couple of pieces to get an idea but not the whole. The space is about 5-6 meters square and the joists appear to be sistered. I can probably take a better look tomorrow evening, I’m away at the moment.

    Loft support for store area

The length of the rafters is about 4.2m from the joists to the peak with a support beam running around the middle (around 2 meters) I believe there are a few load bearing walls: one down the length of the house and 2 branching off ( existing open plan reno downstairs has replaced these with...

    Loft support for store area

Hello, I have a question about adding support to my loft. I’m not planning on a complete conversion but want to make some space I can walk fairly freely about to put some organized storage on it. My understanding is you should have 150mm joist probably no more than about 500mm apart to the...

Little hatch for old fire chimney

Hi, thanks for the response. I’m happy to spend a bit of time patching to be honest. I’m tidying up the back area and that panel is a bit of an eyesore. Plus material and dust occasionally pours out of the crack. I don’t mind if the render doesn’t match totally. Thanks

Little hatch for old fire chimney

Hi I have this little panel that I assume opens to the old kitchen chimney flue which has long been removed. Someone covered it with something that obviously wasn’t terribly successful. I’m wondering, after removing this panel, cleaning the junk out and reducing the rust what best to fill it...

    Condensate pipe replacement

Thanks all, this is all very helpful. The sink is on the other side of the wall and sounds logical to connect there as we have indeed been having some freezing issues But yes, starting to feel like I need a pro to assess. Thanks again

    Condensate pipe replacement

Hello I have a condensate pipe that needs replacing. It’s been cracked for a while but now the plastic is completely desintergrating. Im pretty confident I can do this myself, but just wanted to check here. I guess the things I’d need is some replacement piping of the same diameter (enough to...

    Kitchen sink tap stuck

I tried this and used the screw driver more aggressively to get it off, finally did after so time. Now the shroud is stuck… considering just replacing the whole thing but I’ll have another attempt tomorrow before caving

Problem crack between wood and brick

I actually tried this, using mesh and skimming over it, with joint compound but it didn’t adhere to the wall particularly well. Maybe I should try this again

Problem crack between wood and brick

Hello, I have this long crack that runs around the perimeter of a pre-existing door that had been covered up before my time here. It’s seems wooden panels (I assume ply) have been placed in the space and is quite hollow, and not entirely flat. I’m repainting this wall and would really like to...

    Kitchen sink tap stuck

Hi, I’ve fixed one bathroom tap by removing the handle but had trouble doing so on a couple of others. I gave up on one and replaced the entire faucet, but I would like to salvage the kitchen faucet if possible. I’ve been able to remove the nut within the tap handle, but the handle is still...

    Basin mixer installation

Hi, I have bought a new mixer tap for my bathroom basin to install. The flexi hoses come with 3/8 connections and I have an isolation valve to connect to. It’s too large however and I believe I’ll need an adaptor and nut and olive to get these to marry up. The things is it looks like. 3/4 inch...

Blending inbuilt wardrobe to chimney breast

Thanks. It’s not too late to put plasterboard in, the ply hasn’t been attached yet. I could potentially push the ply deeper a use it as backing for plasterboard. I’m hoping having a couple of mm of caulk might buffer any cracking. Could be kidding myself tho.
