    Central heating programmer wiring mysteries

I was so clear on what I needed to slave through from the old base plate, that I forgot to link live to 2 on the new one. Since 2 is COM, that was an error . Once I'd fixed that, all is working well. This is a nice unit - more convenient being able to adjust from the remote...

    Central heating programmer wiring mysteries

My plan was to leave all the existing wires in place, just linking 3 and 4 on the new plate to 3 and 4 on the old, plus the power and earth lines. So whatever is already linked to live on terminal 5 still will be. Is that a mistake? (I have to say I'm a bit confused about what all the...

    Central heating programmer wiring mysteries

Hi Stem - thanks so much for this reply. So I just need to connect 3 and 4 of the new base plate, to 3 and 4 of the old; plus L, N, and earth - is that correct?

    Central heating programmer wiring mysteries

We've moved into a new (to us) house, with an old boiler, and an old programmer (Potterton EP 2002). The heating is erratic, which seems to be because the switches on the programmer are dodgy; so I want to replace it. We're planning a renovation within the next year, which will involve moving...

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Yes, that's just what I want. My problem is that AFAICT when I ask for CH (on the 2 channel programmer) the boiler doesn't respond - so it seems we can only get heating if we're also explicitly asking for HW. I'm not sure if that means the programmer (or boiler) has been configured incorrectly...

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Hmmm. I tested with both Hot Water and Central Heating switched off at the two-channel programmer. When the house was cold, switched on Central Heating (and cranked up the thermostat to be sure). Boiler didn't react. I gave it half an hour before switching on Hot Water as well; then the boiler...

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Hi Andrew, thanks for replying. So to be clear, if the 2 channel programmer is set to have hot water switched off, and central heating on - with the thermostat turned down; and it is left like this for a long time so that the any stored water will have cooled down; and then the thermostat is...

Remote control of heating without Nest/Hive or similar

Sorry this is so long! Situation: I'm often away from home for a week or more, and want to be able to switch the heating on before I return - but I don't want to go the full Nest/Hive etc or rely on a third-party service. My last place had a combi gas boiler which fired on demand, if either...
