Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

I've found the problem. There is a flexible metal hose feeding the hot tap and it was kinked, but this was hard to see because it is hidden behind the sink waste. 6 litres/min + now, firing the boiler every time.

Hi, I'm not exactly sure where the tap was purchased from, but on my invoice the description is "ELO045 Shower mixer twin lever tap, brushed" and I've uploaded a pic of it. if you recognise it and know of any common faults then I'd be grateful to pick your brains on it1 Thanks.

I haven't FULLY turned the cold tap off, but I've restricted it so that the flow is now less than the hot tap (where before it was stronger) and now the boiler seems to kick in every time! Faulty tap do ya think maybe?

Thanks Terry, as long as the water gets hot when I turn the tap on then I'll be happy. The flow rate (although you say its very poor) looks ok when the tap is actually running. If a new boiler make it hot and I get 4 litres a minute out of it, I'll be happy!

Not at all! I'd welcome a good engineer! I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but I've actually had an emergency boiler engineer out who diagnosed a leak on my boiler which was coming from the PRV valve, but instead of dumping it outside out of the little copper pipe, it was leaking inside and has...

Thanks Gasguru, but I'm not sure Im qualified to take out the flow limiter. Is that something I could do easily?

Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

Hi Terry, The Guy who fitted the kitchen mentioned that I had poor mains pressure, so I've no idea how that could be fixed. I don't think I have any control over the pressure coming in. I am getting a decent flow out of the shower upstairs, but its DEFINITELY not getting as hot as it used to...

Where could I find a manual? that would be VERY useful!

Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

I've uploaded pics of the tap and the pipes feeding the tap chaps. However, I've made my mind up that I'm getting a new boiler. I've had a few problems with this one over the last few years to be honest - expansion vessel has gone, twice. PRV has gone. Condensate pipe has cracked underneath and...

Thanks mate. I never even considered that the tap may be to blame!

Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

Hi Terry, I've just measured the flow a bit more accurately with a 1 litre container. It takes 14 seconds to fill the 1 litre bottle, meaning in 60 seconds I'm getting 60/14=4.3 litres/min. From my (admittedly short) research I'm finding that a flow rate of 3.5 litres/min is AMPLE to trigger the...

Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

Yes mate, there is an isolator on both the hot and cold feeds, and they are both fully open. Do I really need isolators? The tap is in the kitchen and I have a 'sure stop' switch right next top them if I need to turn the water off. Would removing them completely improve the flow? Or at least the...

Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

The flow rate is slightly less than the upstairs tap, but not by much? if it was a fault with the flow of the tap, then should the boiler stop burning when I trigger it with the upstairs tap but leave the tap on downstairs? It works fine every time once the boiler has been triggered. It's just...

Downstairs hot tap not firing up boiler.

Hi I just tried this with a 2 litre jug and I'd say it gave about 5 litres in a minute. the thing is, with the old taps, this never happened? The other taps had separate hot and cold taps tho. Would a new boiler deal with this kind of flow rate? Thanks.
