Glad you got it sorted. I didn't phone ford first, I phoned a garage that specialised in electronics. Once I explained what was wrong they said it was a problem that only ford could fix.

I did get the problem solved. It was the GEM box that needed replacing. Unfortunately it's something that only ford can replace as they have to take the setting off the old box to put on the new one. Cost me £300 to get it repaired.

Thanks for that. I'll mention it to my uncle next time he looks at it. I think he checked all the earths that were in easy reach. I've since got a haynes manual which suggests it might be something to do with GEM box which is the siemens box. When we disconnected it we only disconnected 2...
