Hi

I’m having problems with my 2002 focus. The central locking has stopped working. I can’t unlock the back doors from the inside or outside. The button for the boot on the dash doesn’t work. The indicators, intermittent wipers, rear wiper, heated front and back windscreen don’t work as well.

So far we’ve tried changing the battery in the key fob, resetting the key in the ignition, checked all fuses and relays and disconnected the Siemens box under the steering wheel. Is there anything else we could try?

Thanks

It's possible that you have more than one fault. Check for broken wires where they pass from the main body to the tailgate, also check all earth connections for good clean contact to the chassis etc.

Thanks for that. I'll mention it to my uncle next time he looks at it. I think he checked all the earths that were in easy reach.

I've since got a haynes manual which suggests it might be something to do with GEM box which is the siemens box. When we disconnected it we only disconnected 2 plugs as that was all my uncle could see. I’ve had another look at I have 5. Is it worth disconnecting these to reset the box?

I think you have to disconnect everything from the locking module and leave it half hour or so before plugging it all back in

did you ever solve this problem ihave the same thing going on with my 2003 ford focus apart from the central locking have no problem with that!

I did get the problem solved. It was the GEM box that needed replacing.

Unfortunately it's something that only ford can replace as they have to take the setting off the old box to put on the new one. Cost me £300 to get it repaired.

thanks very much, got it sorted, got 2nd hand gem box from my local scrapyard £20 just had to reset the key which is a very simple procedure found by google search. You might want to have a word with ford and ask exactly which settings they needed to transfer! sounds like ford have done what alot of big companies are doing more and more to us all these days! thanks again appreciate the reply. ]

Glad you got it sorted. I didn't phone ford first, I phoned a garage that specialised in electronics. Once I explained what was wrong they said it was a problem that only ford could fix.
