ford focus wont lock

hi can anyone help,
my 2000 focus wont lock or unlock using the key fob,
will lock and unlock using key but doors and boot does not when using remote fob have new battery in fob still not working
have tried pushing the button on door pillar 8 times the indicators flash but still no locks working.
dont know much about cars please keep solutions simple

hope it still starts the car?
if not then you might have lost the pats chip.

or as you have changed the batteries then it couldve lost its memory
to reprogram follow the instructions in your hand book.

you have 60 or 90 sec to replace battery on your fob- if exceeded that gets reseted, to program it again:

FORD Focus (Radio 3 Button) - Key Remote Programming
1. Switch Ignition On/Off (II/0) 4 times within 6 seconds until a sound is made.
2. Press any button on Remote until a sound is made.
3. To program additional Remotes, repeat after 2 seconds after the sound.
4. Turn Ignition On/Off to exit.
5. A maximum of 4 remotes can be programmed.
