Issue with one electrical outlet tripping RCD

Hello Thanks for the replies. The problem happens at random and it can be days or weeks before it happens again. It happened today and the last time was about a month ago. The problem has only ever happened with this double gang socket, although the old fan was used in various places in the...

Issue with one electrical outlet tripping RCD

Hello I have a double gang electrical socket in my living room which has a router and electric fan heater plugged in. Occasionally when turning the fan heater on, it trips the RCD and switches off my router and other electrics plugged in on the same circuit. Apart from the fan heater, I don't...

    New internal door sticking

Hello I had an internal door replaced back in May and a few months after the door has started sticking when opening and closing. Initially the problem was at the bottom and I planed a bit off and it worked fine. Recently the problem has started again in different places, the bottom again and...

Water ingress - where could the problem be?

Hi Woody, the information about Statutory Nuisance is definitely useful to know. We haven't taken any legal route yet as we expected the problem would be resolved by now following remedial works they did. We are expecting a visit from them in the next few days to take another look at the...

Water ingress - where could the problem be?

My parents live in a maisonette on 2nd floor and there is another house on top. In December 2020 following a period of heavy rain, water started entering one of the rooms, with water dripping from the white window trim and surrounding areas. Landlord has done a bunch of work to try and fix the...

    Paint peeling

I used Crown Trade paint to paint over a 5 year old coat of paint in my living room. The old paint was also Crown Trade (extreme washable matt or something), new tin was Silk Vinyl Emulsion. Painting was completed end of June with 2 coats. Yesterday I was wiping a mark off and the paint started...

How to remove this access panel?

I got it off in the end, Andy was right, it was the paint holding it in place. Used a very thin screwdriver to lift forward the bottom left and kept cutting through area of resistance until I managed to get a larger screwdriver in. Foxhole - my neighbour did a refurb a couple of years ago and...

How to remove this access panel?

Thanks gents, gonna have another crack at it tomorrow. The paint is surprisingly stubborn against my trusty utility knife. It flexes most in the top right, but my trim removal kit isn't up to the task, need to find something metal to pull it off with.

How to remove this access panel?

The lid comes off and it doesn't look like the cistern is siliconed down. The top panel is separate

How to remove this access panel?

Chris - I tried with a utility knife, hence the not so neat edges. But it gave me just enough room to slid my car trim piece in. Unfortunately no wallpaper scraper to hand. John - is silicone usual practice? Would be daft to use it here as there's a cockstop behind it with no easy access.

How to remove this access panel?

I took the screws out and expected it to come off easily. Tried lightly prying it with a plastic car trim removal piece, it flexes but doesn't come out.

2 stopcocks in flat - why?

Interesting...I didn't think we had a communal tank, but that would explain the very high cold water pressure. No meter, Thames Water bill according to the size of property and their usage estimates. Now I need to figure out a way to access the stopcock behind the wall, the panel is quite...

2 stopcocks in flat - why?

Hello I live in a flat and it has 2 stopcocks. One under the kitchen sink which turns off both kitchen taps and hot water for bathroom sink & bath. The other one is behind a wall panel behind the toilet which turns off toilet water tank and cold water for bathroom sink and bath. Out of...
