I am a Consultant surgeon and I bought the house from a property developer who did the heating installation - I'm no longer in contact with him. He asked me what boiler I wanted and I had heard vaillant were decent so I went for one which was for bigger houses and had a good flow. The one I...
The control was not on analogue so I have changed this as well as the setback to 17 as dangermouse suggested. Can you explain what the setback setting actually does?
Also now it is on setback what about the other settings and what about the flow rates I posted recently are they ok?
Thanks
Regarding flow and return
Boiler started from overun 43 flow and return
it went up incrementally ( 67/49 68/50 etc) with 70 degree flow and 52 return.
This went up to max 70 flow 59 return and the boiler ran for 30 mins before overun at 70 flow 59 return.
This is the best peformance...

when I put it on 19 or 22 it took ages to get heat to the rads and the overun was coming on about the same and I could not get the temp to 21 degrees evben after 5 hours. On 30KW I can get to 21 degrees, in fact 30 seems better than 27. I have no explantion for it and i understand your...
they are cavity walls not insulated - because I want to avoid condensation that a mate got in a similar house when he had cavity wall insultaion put in.
I don' t think I have too many rads, just one in each room and 2 in the kitchen and a towel rail in the bathroom. Also the boiler at 30KW...
Could this be a balance problem causing the quick overun? I have tried a few different balance settings and it does not seem to make much difference. They all have thermostatic valves on and all the rads heat up ok though except one which seems to take a bit longer and the lockshield is max...
I have currently got the system on 30KW and bypass to max 350mb and pump on 100%, water overun at 5 mins and this seems to be not bad.
19KW as mentioned before was hopeless.
However it seems to still go onto overun quite a lot. For example I put it on this morning ro raise the temp from 17.5...

Also, I've put the pump back to 100% as performance seems poor on the auto setting. I don't understand this as this is supposed to adjust automatically to the system. Any idea why this would be the case and should I try with the pump at a different % speed or will that stop it working at 100%...
I changed it to 19KW and it was hopeless - I've put it back to 30.
Tony - the bypass is a screw with adjustability from 170mb to 350, the default is 250 which is what it is on now.
Regarding the overun - some conflicting views here? The pump overun is currently on the default of 5mins...
