The shower is hot water fed off the boiler. No electrics with that, just the lights. Will get them to send a photo.
There's two lights above the shower area, two above the toilet area. That's the only electrics in there.
If this is notifiable work should the householders have had a copy of a...
Visiting some relatives in Wales and noted they had a new bathroom fitted in their 1966 3 bed bungalow. The shower / tiling work / ceiling looks hmm, fair, but I also took a look at the wiring in the attic and found this:
It looks like a bit of dodgy diy to me.
There was just one pendant...
Running a network cable so had to take up the carpet by the French doors.
First time I have looked at this area of the house in detail (it's a 5yo house, with numerous issues :D )
Does this look ok as in has the build been done properly?
* The concrete is not a smooth finish. In the right...
Ok, that makes sense @crank39 I just ran a detector over the area and all doors and windows that I sampled had sections of 3" to 5" wide medal near the top, middle and bottom zones.
So that sort of proves they used a cleat fixing system but it does not prove that the frames are correctly...
Ok, this is now slightly worrying.
I just looked at the neighbour's frame and they now have door frame screws in them.
These are not under the hinges but totally visible in the frame. My door does not have these.
Even more worrying is that the larger, double patio doors do not have any...
I can't see any screws in the frame unless they are hidden behind the hinges. Here's some images
Top Hinge
Middle Hinge
Bottom Hinge
Door From Inside
In this image you can clearly see that the door is not square in the frame. There is a big gap top right, thin gap bottom right. I...
A neighbour had their 4 year old front door replaced because of bad draughts. The installer said that the original door frame had not been fixed to house correctly - it had not been screwed in and was basically held in place by sealant.
My door is identical and was presumbly installed by the...
This has now been resolved. The soffits were removed, insulation refitted, new bricks installed (taking notches out of bricks where it would have infringed wood) and new soffits installed.
As for building control the council want nothing to do with this. They state they are not part of this...
I am still waiting for the missing bricks issue to be fixed. The developers sent the original builder around to look at it. He confirmed that the carpenter removed the bricks to install the roof work but did not replace the bricks. Said he would contact when ready to do the job but I have not...
Just to add to the list of dodgy issues on this development.
This morning a resident is reporting a large piece of metal has fallen off the box window frame / surround.
Yes the NHBC do seem to be as useful as a rubber screwdriver. I have asked then a few questions over the past year and they just bat it back or pass the buck. One in particular is trying to get an answer out of them if the Loft Zone system can be used / would invalidate the warranty.

Ok, this morning the bird is trashing something else.
It looks like polystyrene balls but made of paper?
1. What is this material and what is it used for?
2. What damage is being caused by it being removed?
3. Will it need replacing / repairing?
There is no damp that I am aware, but how can you tell what's going on in the cavity and if something is brewing?
Presumably this is not much of an issue and nothing much to worry about?
I woud say we are lucky. We have only had:
totally crap grouting causing water to leak into downstairs...
I have a 3 1/2 year old 4 bed detached house. Half of the air bricks are blocked with some totally blocked by driveway paving. All bar the front had some kind of blocking.
I hope someone can answer a few questions but first here's a few pictures
In this image the paving slab and guttering is...
