What system is this? Combi with extra thermostats?

Yup its a frost stat and a pipe stat. They may be from a previous older boiler and have been left wired in when replacing with the newer boiler.

    Combi leak?

Sounds about right. Filling up the system with fresh oxygenated water will mean that air will form and find its way to high points in your system. It would have shown sooner if you were using the heating. Monitor it going forward but at the moment I wouldn't be concerned.

Help! DS40 has turned my HW green or brown!

To recap it seems that you have caused yourself much more hassle and expense by trying to save money from getting a professional in to check your boiler. This fault would have been identified within 30mins of working on the appliance as fairly common occurrence. The forum is good for advice...

How to avoid frozen pipes while away in winter

Yes but from what we can gather the bursts were in the loft and most likely as the loft is insulated it's like an outside space. Leave heating on low and hw on for an hour per day but leave the loft hatches open and the heat will rise preventing the pipes in the loft from freezing.

Heating problem radiators downstairs don't come on!

Use an adjustable spanner and turn the valves off by turning the spindle on the lockshields clockwise after you have removed the white caps. Then turn the heating back on and it should clear what sounds like an air-lock; there will be some gurgling noises then hey presto. If that doesn't...
