The right way to do roast beef.

Finally got it right after many years of trying and having had advice from son who did Exeter Catering college:- 1. Assuming you can afford it always buy Sirloin or Topside which is at least 28 days old. Around a kilo is best but adjust times a bit if larger. 2. Bung in roasting tin and pour...

    Rip off plumber needs jailing

I am of course well aware that those that continue to comment are probably members of the thieving brigade who habitually rip off women and pensioners.

A couple of coats of Danish oil would look great.

Water Damage - Floor and Walls

Let's think - 1.Is the MDF actually damaged? 2. Is MDF subject to rot - as timber is? 3. A good roofer once fitted fresh lead for me because I notice that roof timber was getting quite wet. What about the timber I asked - "That will be OK once it has dried out but I'll come round and check in a...

    Rip off plumber needs jailing

"right ball park" for a rip off you mean. As it happens I have just had the self same job done on my upstairs toilet by a well known and qualified local man and I stood by in case he needed some help. Well it was a bit of a struggle but he had it all done within 1/2 hour and he charged me £70...

What could be causing mould around window?

Ventilation is often a problem in bedrooms where you are breathing out moist warm air all night. Happens to us periodically and the Dettol mould spray always sorts it; you don't need much and it vanishes in under an hour.

    Rip off plumber needs jailing

Old dear and pensioner who is very old friend just been well ripped off by plumber. Apparently dual flush valve was doing the usual trick of not closing so water kept running. Well Wickes will charge you £13 for a new one and they take no more than 20 minutes to fit probably less. The thieving...

How to repair this shower tiling? (Ed.)

Oh dear, I don't wish to be alarmist but I don't think that you realise how serious the situation is. Whoever did that bathroom was either a cowboy or an ignorant DIYer because it certainly ain't right and what bothers me is the floor underneath the bath must be getting wet in which case it will...

    terrestrial TV antenna

When we moved in 5 years ago previous owner had load of Sky stuff installed at great expense (you won't get good reception without it) he insisted. I knew better and bought a high gain aerial from Wickes for about £30. Transmitter is 25 miles away so I knew the signal would need amplification...

Identify and treat this roof (Ed.)

You are asking two questions joe:- 1. You only need insulation if you need to keep it warm in winter; do you? 2. Most surfaces can be smartened up with a suitable paint - read the tins before you buy in order to get the right product.
