    3-position switches?

Sorry to be a nuisance, but they don't sell these at Screwfix, do they??

    3-position switches?

That's the baby! "Two-way and Off" is the kind of thing. I didn't think a dimmer was the way to go, and this is more elegant than two separate switches. Having UP as "Auto" makes sense, and the faceting on the switch should give enough indication as to which setting it's in without a...

    3-position switches?

Since my last posting to you there is now a another outside light to be fitted with a built-in PIR sensor. I have an isolator switch near the door which I'd use as an override as well. I'm not sure I'm Googling for the right thing, or understanding the MK Grid Plus options correctly, but...

    Oil Tank Installation

I have to say I'm less convinced by the 3 slab method the more i think about it, but I'm happy that a 1800x900 platform is OK, as the tank tapers down to about 1780x840 at the bottom. 1803x1118 is the overall size to the bulbous bits, which is what the green 'tank outline' is meant to represent.

    Oil Tank Installation

Thanks for the responses, guys. I won't 'quote and respond' to each of your comments, but the situation is this: - My Oftec installer has recommended raising the tank by 500-600mm. - He's not recommended the Tigerloop as it adds more complexity and puts more gizmos and pipes outside the...

    Oil Tank Installation

I wasn't sure whether to put this under "Building", but I figured I'd find more Oftec types here than over there. I have myself a Harlequin HZA1400 tank, and have a concrete base measuring 2400mm x 1700mm. It has 250-300mm of hardcore and a 100mm concrete topping. However, the tank needs...

    Oil Tank Security

Sorry, it's been a while since I've looked on here, but thanks for your respnse, TicklyT. I was also thinking along the lines of a rate sensor, but just didn't know how to go about it. Something like a ballcock or some other float was as far as I got, but your idea is no doubt more...

    Painting freshly skimmed walls/ceilings

Thanks for that. There's only deep plaster in a couple of areas, and they're finally starting to dry out nicely. We'll be painting the dry areas first, ultimately with a silk emulsion. I take it from your comments it doesn't matter if the base coats are silk or matt? And I trust there's...

    Oil Tank Security

I like your idea of "septic tank" signs! :D Giving out the combination to the delivery company could be a worry; I've read on another forum that many people have had their oil stolen within a week of delivery. Either the theives are following the tanker to see where it goes or, perhaps...

    Oil Tank Security

This thread may not prompt just electronic solutions, but I figured this was the best section to post in. We've got ourselves a 1400 litre single-skin plastic tank, and we had originally planned to place it in a boarded/fenced enclosure alongside the driveway. However, with the rising cost...

    Painting freshly skimmed walls/ceilings

It's an old topic, I know, but I don't want to hijack anybody else's threads. I've recently had my whole house re-skimmed. Many of the outside walls and all the ceilings have been boarded prior to plastering. Once dry, our builder/plasterer has recommended to lightly run a dry cloth over...

2.5mm² for a lighting circuit? (And why not in a ring??)

Hello again everyone. I'm not the type of person that HAS to have the last word in any argument, but after reading some of the responses above I feel compelled to say something about my conduct on this thread, as well as others. I have already apologised for offending some of you with my...

2.5mm² for a lighting circuit? (And why not in a ring??)

Hello again everybody! Sorry to disappoint, but my absence from the forum WASN'T the result of a dodgy lighting circuit - I've had a few other issues to deal with instead. Since buying this new property we've learned that it was originally built by a well-known local businessman with a bit...

2.5mm² for a lighting circuit? (And why not in a ring??)

The fourth switch is an override for the PIR light in the driveway. Ah, you see, this is where I've been told different! There's going to be a basin on the wall opposite the door, and legend has it that if can you put one hand in a basin and touch a light switch with the other, it's a shock...

2.5mm² for a lighting circuit? (And why not in a ring??)

I've got to deter the burglars somehow! Actually Bed 1, Bed 3 and the Lounge will have a central ceiling fan. These rooms are at the back, and we have no houses behind us until the farmer sells his field to developers! Bed 2 has no fan, and we may still move the light slightly closer to the...
