Hello
My loft is boarded throughout. I recently discovered that underneath the boards is a very strange insulation material - basically it looks & feels something like what you'd put in a hamster's cage - i.e. loose material, quite scratchy and looks liek a cross between scrunched up...
Yep, makes sense to get a professional in.
It's a 4-bed house and we haven't been skimping on the heating so usage is probably par for the course.

Moved into this house in October which has oil-fired central heating which I have not used before.
The boiler is in the garage and the tank is in the back garden approx 5m away. The feed pipe is buried.
When I moved in I fairly regularly smelt oil around the tank and the area of the feed...

The pop-up plug on my bath is broken, so to empty the bath you need to pull the whole plug physically out of the plughole. I think this means that the water flows away much quicker than it would if the plug just...
There is a 0 reading and the gauge doesn't move whether it's on or off. Heating & hot water work fine though. Have I got a problem? Should I even be running the boiler when it's 0 pressure? Or might it just be a broken gauge?
thanks
Finally got a moment to look at this properly - popped the spring clip off the top of the tab body, took it to pieces, wiped some bits of limescale off various parts, put it together and it's working perfectly. Thanks all for your help.
My kitchen mixer tap is leaking, I stripped it down and the tap core is very very stiff. OK no problem just replace it but it is a half-turn unit (with a semi-circular opening), the shops I have been too only have quarter-turn units, and suck their teeth when I ask how I can get a replacement...
