Hi, Any help would be appreciated - I have a chip in the side wall of my landing - the wall looks to be plasterboard ... the chip is about the size of a 10pm coin and is quite shallow .. the trouble is once I have filled in, sanded it etc. when someone leans on the wall, the round bit of...

    Painting over Thompson's Waterseal

All - I have posted some pics up in my album - would be grateful to get your thoughts on the quality of the lead flashing etc. I will try going up to check the flaunching tomorrow.

Penetrating Damp - not sure where the water is coming from

Thanks for the reply - I will get someone to check both of these although the last guy that checked said that the lead flaunching and mortar holding the chimney bit were both ok. Do you think it's more likely to be the chimney letting in water rather than the brickwork on the gable end wall...

    Painting over Thompson's Waterseal

Thanks for the response mrhelpful, roof is about 5 years old but looks solid, many have said so, flashing looks fine too, which is why I'm confused as to where the water is coming from. Will post some pics up soon, which may help.

    Painting over Thompson's Waterseal

Iv had several people look at it, it's an end terraced house, getting wet patches on the inside of the gable end wall, it's just been repointed, and wet patches get worse after it rains, roof is new. It's between the chimney breast and the side wall of bedroom, going across the top next to the...

    Painting over Thompson's Waterseal

Hi, Sorry for me delayed post, the situation was getting me upset and all Thompson ' s were saying (or rather their technical team) was not to paint it as the paint would just flake off. Thank you so much for the replies. The weather shield has been on for about a month now. As I have...

    Painting over Thompson's Waterseal

Hi, A quick question - I had coated the side wall of my house with Thompson's waterseal after it was re-pointed, thinking it was the old solvent based formula. I have subsequently discovered that it was actually the water based 'new improved formula' with silicone in it and it advises not to...

Penetrating Damp - not sure where the water is coming from

In answer to your questions: The chimney 'pot' has been covered to stop water coming into the chimney pot itself - it is a disused chimney. I will post some pics up shortly - I am at work at the moment, but will do so. Yes, gable wall is a solid wall. I have looked in the loft - no...

    Penetrating damp, chimney stack

Hi, just wanted to check, did you manage to get to the root of the problem? I have a similar issue in my house.

Penetrating Damp - not sure where the water is coming from

Thanks for the reply anyway, appreciated. I did give thompsons a call, apparently you can paint over the old solvent based stuff, but not the 'new improved formula' water based one, which has silicone in it - I shouldve paid more attention before I sprayed the stuff on. But in any case, I...

Penetrating Damp - not sure where the water is coming from

The new roof was actually replaced a couple of months before I moved into the property (approx 5 years ago). The lead flashing around the chimney has also been checked recently - looks fine. The chimney has now been "covered" to stop water coming through the dis-used chimney and the mortar...

Penetrating Damp - not sure where the water is coming from

I am wondering if anyone can assist with a problem I have. After the driving rain that we had in mid Feb, I have noticed wet patches on the wall of my middle bedroom (end terraced house, gable end wall). The wet patches are on the wall, coming down from the roof, between the chimney and the...
