Fixing PB to ceiling through insulation

Ha, ok. Thought that was the only way, was hoping for something better though. Is there a trick you use to actually hit the rafters when screwing those 180mm beasts in? The joists are only 47mm wide and if you're doing an 8'x4' sheet of PB on top of an 8'x4' PIR board, its hard to pinpoint...

Fixing PB to ceiling through insulation

I will shortly be insulating a new pitched roof (single storey kitchen extension) using between-and-under PIR insulation - 100mm Celotex between rafters, 50mm under. What is the best method of fixing the plasterboard to this afterwards? And how about the fixing of the 50mm Celotex - whats the...

Boost flow rate via cold water storage

I have a new combi now and am just refitting the house to have two showers. Flow rate will be a fairly big problem, especially with two showers running at once. My peak flow rate is 8.6 l/m, measured by my boiler with kitchen hot tap open. Looking for ways to boost flow rate. Hot water...

    Drill bit catching wool insulation

Ok, must be because when I've done it before it's been half-finished walls or stud walls and wood drill bits. Will just go for it then. Didn't want to do anything to damage my newbuilt extension!

    Drill bit catching wool insulation

I've got a load of holes to drill through a cavity wall with rockwool insulation in the cavity. Every time I do this the wool winds itself round the bit and pulls it out from wherever it is placed. Is there a way to prevent this with SDS and/or core drills?

    UFH design for combi boiler

I'd happily do an s plan if I could get that working with my one or two nest setup (with opentherm, not on/off) - I've just posted another separate thread about that

    UFH design for combi boiler

So am I also right in thinking I don’t need an automatic bypass valve IF I get either a low loss header or close coupled tees? LLHs seem more appropriate for large systems, mind is fairly small so don’t want to go overkill.

    UFH + rads + Nest + OpenTherm

If only I’d asked this question before buying the nest... I’d then have found the evohome too which also does something like that and gives me indepentent control of each room.

    UFH design for combi boiler

Ok cheers, I’ll look into that. He’s not actually doing any of this work for me, he just gave me a couple of tips on UFH while he was installing my boiler, so I wouldn’t expect him to be sizing it for me.

    UFH + rads + Nest + OpenTherm

so I want to add UFH to my existing single-zone single-nest heating system, the nest is wired to my Combi via OpenTherm. I want to keep the OpenTherm if possible as it helps the boiler modulate for peak efficiency. It is not possible to chain nests together unless you use the dumb On/Off...

    UFH design for combi boiler

ive got a 32KW combi with 8 rads and am going to heat a large open plan extension with a wet UFH system (35 m2) Doing this DIY and I know nothing about heating engineering. My plumber, who is a decent heating engineer, mentioned I’d probably need a header on the UFH manifold so as to not upset...

    Stub stack diameter

Would rather not use 110mm under floor joists too, as then I wouldn’t be able to crawl under one key section any more:-)

    Stub stack diameter

Building control has approved the architect’s plans - it is part of a house extension. I assume they at least glanced at the plumbing details but who knows. All the area shown on my diagram is timber suspended floor so access not as much of an issue. I had hoped I could use 50mm pipe for the...

    Stub stack diameter

It's not an @, its "G3" in a circle, and it represents one of the steel beams in our kitchen. So all internal. I should have cropped a wider area of my plans :) The area above the utility room is kitchen. The whole area shown in my diagram is suspended floor, but further up from that (outside...
