Refinishing and polishing quartz / granite kitchen worktop

I recently bought a small off-cut of quartz worktop (40cm x 30cm odd) to use as a little shelf in a project I'm doing. It was the exact size I needed but was dull/unfinished and scratched on the face and sides. Local kitchen worktop fitters were all asking £100+ to refinish it, which seemed...

    The best shelving installation solution?

Sorry, I should have mentioned the studs the builders used are too thin and small to fix to. They used 1" x 1\2 inch batons for some reason. The studs are also not in the right places to fix the adjustable shelving vertical fittings.

    The best shelving installation solution?

My old man has asked me to help him buy and install some shelving that's to be fitted to the wall of his professionally converted garage. I'm unsure what the best way to do this is though considering the wall construction. It's a double skin brick wall that has had wooden batons applied and...

Why's my water running hot and cold?

Thanks guys. Ok, I'll get an engineer out to take a look. Turns out the boiler is 25 years old (!) so parts may be becoming scarce, but I guess seals are universal, so hopefully a clean and reinstall with new seals will be do-able.

Why's my water running hot and cold?

It's called a Swift Flow 100. Looks kind of old but was considered a fairly decent boiler from what I can find out about it. Apparently it might be over 20 years old, so I think that could be the case! Thanks for pointing me in that direction, which led me to find another post where someone...

Why's my water running hot and cold?

My 2 floor semi detached has a strange issue that started a few years ago. Initially the problem was my first floor shower would run hot and cold during the summer only, but intermittently work better or perfectly well during the winter. For info, the shower is not electric and is simply fed by...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Hmmmm. Another clairvoyant! lol As previously explained I didn't install the lightswitch, it was one of the only remaining things from the previous kitchen. The power supply is not Traco Power, literally does not have any manufacturers installation Instructions, is perfectly fit for purpose...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

I'd not been on this here forum for ages, but I remember you ban-all-sheds. Still a tool then I see. :ROFLMAO: If anyone else wants to act like a child, show themselves up and prove how ignorant they are with laughable and simple minded digs please, knock yourself out! It really is quite...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

He said that grommets should be installed in all new back boxes, and that he was happy to see that I had fitted them to all the newly installed sockets and switches. As this main light switch had been in place since I moved into the premises almost 10 years ago and the wiring was only re-used...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

I stood with the electrician whilst he checked everything thoroughly. I was working on the house in the same room for the whole day. He checked everything thoroughly and what he did was considered legal, safe and acceptable by Building Control, so I'm not worried in the least. But thank you...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Okay, thanks for the heads up. I'll sort that out then.

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Thank you, that is a sensible suggestion. I think I'll just replace the switch though as there's obviously an issue with it. Thanks again.

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Thanks for that. It's not 'designed' to be enclosed, but it certainly can be under some circumstances and requirements. As far as I have been led to understand there is no legal requirement for it to be enclosed in my situation (away from water and up out of reach of people and animals). If I...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

Not sure what '!!!!!!?' means as I obviously taught myself the necessary skills in order for the qualified electrician to check my work thoroughly and provide me with the Part P certificate without any issues or concerns whatsoever. I have, however, forgotten much of what I learned over a year...

2 Way Light Switch - 1 Switch is back to front

After teaching myself the necessary skills I put in a new kitchen just over a year ago and installed new wiring throughout. It was all inspected and the electrics were signed off by a qualified electrician. The only thing I didn't finish wiring up was the LED mood lighting. The main wiring...
