Simple job - why so expensive?

Cut and cleaned away the sockets, they're also deep enough for a flat plate. Rang a few more electricians and still got nothing below £140 and that's not including VAT + call out fee+ labour fee again, some of these were 'one man bands' :( Maybe it's wiser to take the safer route and...

Simple job - why so expensive?

Thanks for the post Bongos I'd be confident in fitting them after reading a guide and marking where the wires go, but the testing you guys are talking about I have no idea on so I should probably leave it to the pros unless the tests are fairly simple to do or non mandatory. Quite...

Simple job - why so expensive?

Hey I'm wanting to get a plug socket & light switch covering fitted along with a ceiling light, all the wiring is in place it's just a matter of attaching the wires. The job seems simple (maybe i'm missing something) but the cost seems ridiculously high.. I've been quoted by numerous places...

Painting over fresh skim - confused

Thanks joe, the mist coat went on ok, it felt like it sucked up alot of paint fast though, I got through alot more than what I thought I would have, is this normal for a mist coat? I managed to nip the floor with my roller which has small bits of old plaster dust on and now I have a small...

Painting over fresh skim - confused

To late, but thanks anyway mate :D Bought myself 1 5L supermatt and 1 5L vinyl matt, should be good for the job unless I worked it out wrong. Wall coverage is around 40 m2 On the back of the tub it says mix 25:75 water:paint but I thought it was 50:50, what is the right consistency for a...

Reducing noise & an extended door frame (35mm > 51mm)

Hey I live in a very noisy household and I'm wondering if it's possible to soundproof a door or reduce some of the noise that gets in? I'll be replacing my hollow door for a hardwood door but apart from that i'm pretty clueless on how else to tackle the noise problem. I also had to have my...

Painting over fresh skim - confused

So 1 mist coat of Dulux Trade Supermatt thinned down by about 50% and then 1 coat of vinyl matt thinned down at about 25-30% should get the job done? If there are any patches and I need to do a third coating do I just go over it with the same consistency as the 2nd coating? Thanks

Painting over fresh skim - confused

Thanks mate, i'll get the kettle on :D I forgot to mention that 1 wall was bonded and then skimmed, will this affect what paint I can use on that wall or is vinyl matt still good for the job?

Painting over fresh skim - confused

Hey I've just had my room boarded and skimmed and i'm a little confused on how to go about painting it regardless of reading millions of 'how to paint fresh skim' threads. It appears to be completely dry (very light washed pink/peach colour) and there is a slight glass/polish effect to it...

    Old damaged skirting boards

They are 7" torus boards I thought about taking them to the dip n strip but these skirting boards arn't going to come off in 1 piece. I did a practice test on the side of my chimney breast (about 50cm) and you could hear the wood snapping as I gently prised it off. Thanks though, if I do...

Thanks for the replies, I thought it seemed odd. What's an average cost to pay a plumber to perm remove a rad?

    Old damaged skirting boards

Hello I apologise if this is the wrong section. I have some very old skirting boards (120+ years old & 10m in length) which arn't in the best condition, they also have approx 15 layers of paint and the top coating is black. I'm wondering if it would be easier and cheaper to replace the...
