Thanks for your input Wayners. A 2.1m concrete lintel would span the divide over the door and window with an approx overhang of 150mm on either side. Would this suffice? Would it be overkill if I introduced a supporting post where the door and window frames meet?

Would be grateful for some advice, please. Need to replace the wooden door and window at the rear of the garage. Will more than likely go with UPVC. It would appear at present that the top of the door and window frames are providing support for the 2 courses of brickwork above. The bit that...
