Would be grateful for some advice, please. Need to replace the wooden door and window at the rear of the garage. Will more than likely go with UPVC. It would appear at present that the top of the door and window frames are providing support for the 2 courses of brickwork above. The bit that concerns me is the horizontal timber that lies directly above the courses of brickwork - is this functioning as a wallplate?
The garage roof is flat and has a felt covering.
If we change to UPVC, would we require a lintel? Thanks in advance.

2.1m concrete lintel is around £40.
Long enough?
To answer yes it's better to do why not
