probably right John i`m guessing there may be a junction box, if you could trace out what cables go where i`m sure i / someone on here will tell you how to do it. need to know where the 2nd 3 core & earth comes from, guessing the 1st one comes from the other switch

hi John, what is in the connector block with the blue cable? is it one of the wires going to the neon lamp / indicator, also is there red tape or oversleeving on that blue cable?

hardly any heat from led lamps, ask if you can take one of each wattage from a wholesaler and take back the one you dont want, or B&Q they fine with taking stuff back

led lamps if they fit will be the best option as they use very little power

did / can you see if there is a broken piece of copper in the old socket live terminal? it may have just snapped when you took it off or when it got smashed, as previously mentioned, i cant believe it did touch earth in the back box if it has been like that for a while

well to do it correctly a 3 amp fused spur should be fitted, not to protect the cable, but to comply with the fan man. recommendations. on new builds we install a dual box with 3a spur one side and the three pole fan isolator on the other.
