I wired a Hive into my Worcester Greenstar 28CDi Compact Combi Boiler using a Dual Channel Hive Receiver (Heating + Hot Water) last winter and all went well / has been good since.
This is the thermostat -...
I've just remembered I have some stabilising solution left over that I used on the newly rendered exterior walls outside the front before they were painted.
This might be a good start as it is a similarly dry chalky surface.

Evening Ken, thanks for the reply.
It probably is a concrete render from the feel of it.
That's a good question about damp proofing - I'm not sure unfortunately but it is the lower ground floor of the flat so possibly.
I just google rising-damp and noticed something about dry-rods - not sure...
Hi,
I'm redecorating a patch of wall in my hall corridor but struggling to know what surface this is so that I can work out how best to fill it.
Does anyone know what it's likely to be?
Maybe some form of concrete, it's pretty tough and feels very dry.
I had prepared it by scraping off...
Thanks for that.
I went for the Hammerite Direct To Rust as the Isopon Primer seemed to talk like it expected the surfaces to be free from rust (which isn't possible for these nails), but the Hammerite as it says in the name, is fine going straight onto the rust. Check out the dots!
I'll...
Hello!
I'm hoping for some help as I've been going round in circles working out what to do.
I had some new Featheredge Forest Garden fence panels last summer. I fitted them in the garden and left them for the winter to settle in before planning to treat them with Cuprinol Garden shades paint...
This article is interesting for background reading,

And bit about Mould;

Some other pages on there too.
Been told to have a good read of this website too by my friend, lots...
Thanks Click, I'll be looking into this as do really want to understand what's going on. It's only just starting to go cold, yet the whole window still steams up overnight. Not sure if that is a giveaway for the cold bridging. I'm not using any heating yet.
At the moment I'm thinking I also...
Magic, thanks. I shall probably go for a 400mm then and hopefully that will provide enough ventilation. Have had a look down the street and can see no windows with anything wider than 400mm, and no windows with two.
Shall post any other useful info here if there's any findings worth sharing...
Amazing thanks Gaz - so fit it to here;
By the way - it's 900mm wide, would you say 800mm vent? It's a standard sized bedroom that needs venting, but there is a bit of mould so definitely want to maximise the potential ventilation. Thx.
Hi all,
I've been doing my research over the last few days with the view of fitting a trickle vent to my bedroom window to avoid condensation and ventilation issues.
Hopefully this is a quick question but as you can see from the picture below, there is not enough room to fit the trickle...
