    pump speeds

Can anyone explain what the effects/drawbacks are of setting the central heating pump to 1, 2, or 3? I've had to use the highest setting to get rid of airlocks after draining, and was wondering why the 'normal' setting is 2, rather than 1, or even 3.

    awkward leak

Hi Grateful for any advice on fixing an awkward leak. It's coming from a copper soldered elbow, which is fitted onto a pipe protruding about an inch from a cement wall (the pipe has been concreted in). I've taken the fitting off, and the end of the pipe isn't quite square (looks like the tail...

    TRV's - stupid question

OK, thanks - I thought that was too obvious! The valve at the other end is like a normal valve (ie there isn't a cap to remove to access the knob to close with pliers), assume that's not a problem. Most of the rad pipes are coming straight out of the brick wall behind (ie no flxibility), so I...

    TRV's - stupid question

Hi Can I ask a really daft question  , on the basis that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask (!) - how can you tell when a radiator valve is a TRV? All the valves on my system look the same (Danfoss, dial 1 to 5), but I understood at least one in the system shouldn't be a...

    Mira 10.8 cable fitting

Hi I'm installing a 10.8 Mira shower, have everything in place, plumber coming to connect up the water etc. However, the 10mm cable is coming in from the top of the shower, then has to bend back up on itself to go up to the mounting block. It ends up with a very tight bend in the cable, and...

    Using a junction box

Why tidy up junction box in the loft? I used the term 'junction box' a bit loosely, its actually just a bakelite box which contains all (about 7) different collections of cables, twisted together and taped over. They all go to different lamps, fans, switches etc but all come off the one supply...

    Using a junction box

The circuit is already switched, I was just confused as most of the wiring diagrams for 2-way switching have the cabling connections at the switches, rather than at junction boxes. The only one I've seen is at www.diydata.com/planning/twowaylight/twowaylght.htm - but that doesn;t have the power...

    Using a junction box

Hi I've got an existing 2-way switch, in amongst a mess of wiring in the attic. There's currently 4 lights and a ceiling fan coming out of one monster junction box, all feeding off one supply cable. I'm trying to sort them out into separate junction boxes. My question is - the only cables...
