    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

Hi, I would start a new thread as this thread is nearly a year old. Send me the link once you have it. You may also want to post on AV Forums as there is a lot of advice regarding AV technologies rather than just cabling. Cheers, Gary

    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

Hi inkypinky, Yes I would investigate all the cavities first and then talk to a qualified electrician and builder before planning your install. I also agree being cautious doing DIY. I must admit I did have a tear in my eye when I cut in the first socket hole in my brand new house! Cheers, Gary

    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

I completely disagree. Behind the TV I have no room to plug in the TV, LED lights, a HDMI Balun and Remote extender. Plus other installations I have done with an installed socket behind the TV (done by a sparky) have found the plug for the HDMI balun overheating in the confined space. Therefore...

    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

Hi ban all sheds, Sorry, no I was only installing AV cables (Cat6, Speaker, Coax and HDMI) into the floor cavity. The picture under the floor boards was from my investigation of what was originally there. The builders just seemed to have streamed cables mixed together through these holes. I'm...

    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

Hi, As a follow up: After ban all sheds rang my alarm bells i did some research into my floor structure and have learnt that I should not have trusted the builder quite so much. The joists under the floor boards were I-joists and the complete unit was required to take the load. According to...

    New Build Floor Structure

Hi Static, Thanks for the reference it was very helpful. I also did some research and have learnt that perhaps talking to a random builder on site was not the best thing to do ;) So basically the joists were I-joists, two Flanges separated by a web of chipboard. The whole thing is load...

    New Build Floor Structure

Hi, Last year I completely some wiring of AV equipment on my new build house. Most of this wiring involved using access holes in the floor boards to pass cables underneath (see first picture below). Part of this involved creating small holes through chipboard that linked the joists together...

    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

Hi ban-all-sheds, According to the builders of the house the panels between the cavities are for noise and heat insulation and do not bare any structural weight. I of course did not touch the load bearing beams. Are you saying this is not correct? The picture is actually one of the existing...

    Installing Cable In Stud Wall

Hi, Yes project is all done. Took a couple of weeks and finished March 2010. I ended up having the server cabinet (home made 18u cabinet made from an £15 ikea bedside table) under the stairs in a cupboard and then distributing CAT6a cable out to three bedrooms, my study and the lounge. The...

    Fused Spur To Stairs Cupboard

Hi, I've had mixed advice as to whether I can do the following myself (profession IT computer & network installer) and if it is breach of Part P. I'm basically placing a spur from a breakfast area double socket (kitchen with dining room called breakfast area and the socket is about 10m to...

External Wiring - How do I hide and protect the wires

Hi, I've been spending the last 2 weeks wiring up a new build for HD video, network and mounted TVs. However when it came to the last room (my lounge) the dot and dab external wall where the TV will be proved to be too difficult to feed wires behind. Therefore I am left with placing the cable...

Accessing metal stud wall from below

Hi, The problem is that the developer has not left us with any paint (and we have asked) and it is a special mix (not white and not magnolia). Therefore unless I redocorate the entire room then I would need to find another way of covering up the hole :( Cheers, Gary
