Dec - that's exactly how it feels "chalky". The builders used Wickes emulsion.... do you think this would tend to be chalky to the touch? I have a feeling in some rooms they may not have left enough time for the plaster skim to dry properly before painting.... does this also end in this...

Hi - having a bit of quibble with builder over extension where contract says "In essence, all works required to second fix to make the new build habitable" He's refusing to fit skirting and architrave - saying it's decoration. But I would consider skirting and architrave as second fix...

Haha thanks johnD.... Doesn't sound promising. I guess now more and more new builds use chipboard floor cos it's easy, quick and cheap to install. But doesn't say much for durability Fingers crossed ... Will last me 10 years plus (or I am being overly hopeful!! Ha)

Oh dear.... This is so sad! :wink: I get the impression chipboard flooring is nobody's friend to say the least. So I can prepare myself- how long would a chipboard floor last typically given no accidents or leaks etc?

Thx for the reply JohnD. That's the thing I have no idea where pipes and cables are, so i'm really scared of drilling more screws in. Is there anyway of knowing where is safe to drill? :? Also would trying to add glue in to the joints now (retrospectively) be any help? Or it's too late...

hi - i bet this is an oldie but pls bear with me as a newbie. I've just moved into a new build (uncarpeted) with chipboard floors which creak badly. It's new so I don't know why that is. Before I get carpet fitted, what can I do to help with the creaking? I suspect the builders only...
