I think I know where you are coming from, the same happened to my Vokera boiler, it's the shaft on the control knob that snaps. Turn this control, if the lights do not go out in the off position it's the shaft that is broken. A new knob is around £6.00, you need to be a little mechanically...

Thanks again for everyone's help and suggestions, I'll order a new part tomorrow I got it to run for a few seconds after turning the broken shaft but then it stopped, I suspect the switch disconnected as there was no shaft in there to keep it on. Needless to say, I isolated the appliance...

Worked out how to set it for heating and water by turning the broken stump on the pcb. Thanks for the advice!

Arggghhhh: just re read the suggestion about the control knob, it stays lit when I switch over so I guess it has snapped off inside. Does anyone know how to replace it please or is there a workaround for the winter that sets it to water and heating?

Sorry should have mentioned the pump I refer to is the central heating pump and that there is no room thermostat, it is just controlled by the timer clock and boiler stat.
