Ideal Classic FF250 Repair or Replace?

We are just about to replace our kitchen. As part of this, I need to turn our boiler through 90 degrees to make it side exit (blanking plate is there). I know the boiler could do with the fan being replaced. If I read correctly, this boiler isn't too bad, however, it is coming up for 14 years...

    Can you still get these?

I had a really nice PIR attached to my garage. Fitted it about 14years ago. It had two sets of outputs L1 and L2 L1 brought on two coach lights either side of the garage as low level courtesy lights from dusk till dawn. If the PIR was triggered, then it brought these on full...

    Mystery Object?

I doubt they could EVER try/dare and charge us for water up here in Scotland. Getting shot of it because it is in the way of one of the new units we are fitting.

    Mystery Object?

It is being given a fitting send off as we speak!

    Mystery Object?

I now know why. Previous owener let the property out as a Holiday Let, hence metered supply. Thanks!

    Mystery Object?

What is this? Water Meter? Confused as to why we would have one as our supply isnt metered?????

Advice Please - Cast/Wrought Iron Ballustrades

The cottage we are doing up as a cast/wrought (not sure which) iron ballustrades on the staircase. Took the top hand rail off today and they have a metal strip running along the top under the rail. Each one looked to have been riveted in place. Suspect they put a soft metal pin in then peened...

How do I - Match that old fashioned stain look/colour

I am doing up an old cottage and I REALLY want to try and blend the new woodwork in to match the old stuff that we have retained. Looking at the wood, it seems to be mainly Scotch Pine with an amber "ish" stain, and then perhaps a slightly browner varnish or similar (shellac?) over the top...

    Electric System - Advice Please

For various reasons I have decided to go for an electric heating system. My options are (that I am aware of) a) Wet System with radiators. Looking at an EHC Fusion 12Kw boiler with radiators. Plus- Cheaper for parts. Cons- Have to run pipes, find a location for the boiler. Single...

    Superquilt - Any Good?

Cheers for that. I have seent he video you mentioned and also the double quilt method. Double layer makes this start getting VERY expensive. Mountainwalker..noted lath not lathe.

    Superquilt - Any Good?

So sorry for being a newbie and trying to reply with the information quickly as requested (which I have done) Would say that it didnt merit your response.

    Superquilt - Any Good?

It is not a large cottage. Roof height is 2.13m and door frames are 1.68m. Rooms are built within the roof space so the walls are sloped front and back. Size wise the rooms are around 3.1m x 3.3m. So....we want to avoid bringing the walls/ceiling in/down as much as possible, as every cm...

    Cleaning Old Stone Walls

We are doing up an old cottage. Downstairs walls are lathe and plaster. We are going to be removing this as part of dealing with a damp issue. We quite fancy the idea of leaving the walls as the original stone. Aside from the lack of insulation, any other downsides? Whats the best...

    Superquilt - Any Good?

Yes, it is for the roof. And yes, it is an older property. One of the appeals of superquilt was it is is thin. Head space is at a real premium which is why we are considering Superquilt. Three layers of mineral rool may compress down to say 100mm? versus 19mm for Superquilt.

    Superquilt - Any Good?

The cottage we are just about to start on has two upstairs rooms. At present, it is just lathe and plaster then the joists/boards/tiles etc. Plan is to pull the lathe and plaster down (all well worn and cracked) then insulate it to the hilt before plasterboarding on top. Question being...
