Using calipers, I found the top hinge had a gap of 7.3mm. Used that measurement to make drill holes for the bottom hinge and voila - it worked like a charm. Thanks for the replies @crank39 - appreciate your time :)

The screw holes all lined up perfectly, it’s the new hinge that’s pushing the door up - so I was looking to see if the original hinge was out still there. Will likely have to try and install it lower as you suggested, but worried about overlapping with the original holes
