ok, thanks. I'll try letting it dry out more and getting the multimeter on it.

I read around to see that water or grease etc can cause this problem. After investigating, I can see that the underneath of the ignition switch and the two wires and plastic connector blocks attached to the switch have been sitting in a pool of some kind of grease. I assume this is the cause of...
