Resolving a draught coming through patio door panel seal

I completely get what you're saying - but out of the 2 sealed side panels and the 2 patio doors, this is the only part that has a noticeable drop in temperature and noticeable draught. Because it is one of the sealed side panels, I don't think there are any hinges on this part. So I'm guessing...

Resolving a draught coming through patio door panel seal

Sorry to sound naive, but what do you mean by an "opener"? This panel doesn't open at all - it's a sealed side panel of a patio door. It would need a mallet or something similar to get the glass panel out of the frame. And I don't know if I have the skills or confidence to do that in order to...

Resolving a draught coming through patio door panel seal

I can feel the draught with my hands, whereas the patio doors and the other side panel don't have that, and are well sealed. So I'm quite confident it's from the air itself. It's a good point though, so much appreciated.

Resolving a draught coming through patio door panel seal

Hi all, I am trying to resolve as many draughts in my house as possible as I'm attempting to tighten my belt when it comes to heating, etc. I have noticed a really bad draught coming from the seal of one of the side panels of my patio doors. Here are a couple of photos: As you can see the...

Proposed build-up for insulating laminate floor

Hi all, To cut a long story short, I have a 17 year old extension that is much colder than the rest of the house. The floor in particular is really, really cold to walk on. I've taken a laminate board up, and underneath is some 4mm foam underlay straight onto concrete/screed. I have no idea if...

    Laminate flooring insulation options

I've just got a response from my local carpet fitter, and they said they have a similar underlay to Axfelt called "Supervelvet" by Wilson's (https://wilsons-underlays.co.uk/supervelvet/). Looks pretty decent spec-wise. He said he could supply and fit it for £10.99 per square metre which sounds...

    Laminate flooring insulation options

Yep I have radiators but it doesn't solve the issue of the floor still being cold to walk on, and the room also doesn't retain heat at all once the heating goes off. I also try to have the heating off completely from April to October, so I'd rather not have to put it on just for this one room...

    Laminate flooring insulation options

Thank you so much for this advice, it's very much appreciated. I did have a local company carpet my upstairs bedrooms last year, so I'll get in touch with them and see what they say. So if I went with carpet and an underlay like the one you suggested, would I need to install a DPM? Would I get...

    Laminate flooring insulation options

Thanks for the response. I had someone come round a few months ago to look at quoting for underfloor heating - he said that a plumbed system would be a pain to do given the length of pipes they'd have to fit to the boiler. And he also said an electric system wouldn't be efficient enough for the...

    Laminate flooring insulation options

Hi everyone, For a while now I've noticed how ridiculously cold my lounge is, and one of the main reasons is because the floor is so cold. I've finally managed to pull up some of the laminate flooring (had to remove skirting board as well), and I've found that all that is under the laminate is...

Rotten and mouldy shed floor - can it be repaired?

Thank you both for your comments. I've attached photos of the outside of the shed - it's in generally good condition (the second photo is the outside of the corner that is rotting). Sounds like contacting some handymen will be the way to go as I don't have the tools or the time to take the shed...

Rotten and mouldy shed floor - can it be repaired?

Thanks very much for your response. I'll take more photos tomorrow (Tues) and post them on here then. I was afraid that someone would say about completely dismantling and re-doing the floor. Feels like it might be out of my powers to do all that, both skills and tools-wise! Who would I contact...

Rotten and mouldy shed floor - can it be repaired?

Hi everyone, I moved into my house last year, and only realised a few weeks ago when I started sorting the shed and back garden out, that the previous owners had allowed part of the shed floor to rot and become covered in white mould, and had just hidden it under an MDF panel! I have attached a...

Fixing a draughty bathroom extractor fan vent

Cool, thanks - I'll do a google search now. I took the front of that vent off and there's a big hole so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the cause of the draught - see the image below. I can't follow the pipe as it goes under the floorboards, but your idea about spraying an air freshener is...

Fixing a draughty bathroom extractor fan vent

Thanks so much for your reply, and apologies for my slow response. I'll take another look at the outlet tomorrow and take a closer photo. From memory I don't believe a flap is fitted though. Would I need to replace the whole thing? If so, do you have any links to an example of what I'd have to...
