What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby?

I grew up in Poole so the boat discussion is interesting. Poole at least still has a public slipway with slipway parking and every 10th house has a boat on a trailer in the driveway round my mum's way.

    Bathroom electrics question

If it's feeding a panel on the ceiling wouldn't it be neater to bring the power in from above anyway?

    Has Hep2o changed since 2013?

In my case the insert came half out damaging and snagged in the "jaws" of an elbow, be prepared to be able to pop out and get some replacement fittings (like I had to) or have them in hand.

Off-grid solar + wind in parallel?

For the faff involved the easiest option might be to just sling in a second battery and maybe solar panel to up the capacity. Have you worked out the power budget and how well it's matching up with the charging capacity? You might just need a bit more headroom.

    Vaillant ecotec Thermostats

Get a Vaillant control then flog it if you get rid of your ecotec. As they're pricey new they usually still sell for a decent amount second hand on eBay.

    PIR board as loft insulation

Having put in a bit of 100mm PIR so I could easily board around the hatch and still have a little headheight It's a right faff, especially if the joist sides aren't completely parallel. By comparison just rolling some top up loftrolls at 90 degrees to the existing joists is cheap and easy, you...

PAT / ITEE Testing. IEC lead fuses

Around 1kW does seem to be the cut-off for some manufacturers fitting C16 inlets rather than C14, 550W PSU for the switch I've checked has C14 fitted, 1050W PSU comes with C16 (that I've never personally seen leads for in 0.75mm), they seem to be designing it so less knowledgeable persons are...

PAT / ITEE Testing. IEC lead fuses

These days IT equipment that has a higher power draw usually come either with C16 or even C20 inlets, the cables for this are usually 1.0mm2 or even 1.5mm2 and you can't just use your 0.75mm lead in unless you're using an adapter or using it to feed a PDU. It's a bit of a pain for us as the...

Chubb lock in door is jammed open so I can’t close the door.

If it's a standard size new lock is easiest and not very expensive, if it's an odd (expensive) size it is possible to service them.

Chubb lock in door is jammed open so I can’t close the door.

You can sometimes also lever it out through the screwholes with a small flat once you've taken the screws out, mortice locks (and most other locks) aren't designed to be lubricated throughout with oil.

    Understanding Printer Issue

You can get compatible drums for this model, from experience compatible quality is fairly close but not quite as good as original part You can get a single black drum for a tenner which sounds cheap enough as a punt if you just want to keep it going as a B&W unit for a bit, if you want colour...

    Soakaway for new Condensate Boiler.

The condensate pumps on our work aircon units make almost no noise, I'd be amazed if you could hear it above the normal whirrs and other noise you get from a boiler, the pump would only have to run if the boiler is going and discharging condensate. That webpage seems to mix up a soakaway for...

    Old fuse.

It has a slightly newer 30A fuse and 30mA RCD upstream so this fusebox is secondary anyway.

    Old fuse.

Oh goody, so the ancient Prento ceramic fuses in my shed have asbestos behind them? Might make it's replacement or the possibility of a fuse going before that more "interesting" than I hoped.
