The duct goes straight from the bathroom ceiling into the loft above. Yes that seems to be what it happening condensation is running back into the fan.

The electrician who fitted it sent me some options and I chose from these. It was to replace one fitted by previous owner, which didn't last very long but this new one was more powerful.
