I have had an extractor fan fitted a few weeks ago in my bathroom. It has stopped working a few times either getting stuck on or tripping fuse box. The electrician who fitted it has come out to see what the problem might be. He thinks that the problem is with the pipe that goes from fan into loft space above and that the angle and fitting of this is making it difficult for fan to work and that condensation is building up in fan and causing it to stop working. He suggests replacing ducting and replacing the current fan with inline fan. My research seems to suggest this would be a good solution but am looking for further advice to confirm. Thanks.

The electrician who fitted it sent me some options and I chose from these. It was to replace one fitted by previous owner, which didn't last very long but this new one was more powerful.

Routing of the vent is critical or condensation runs back to fan and can short it .
In-line fan is more efficient when the vent route is fairly long as it clears more effectively. Run on after use is essential and needs to be 15-20mins.
Some ceiling fans are dual speed so needs to be at fastest.
Insulated ducts also reduce condensation .
Do you know the route the duct takes?

The duct goes straight from the bathroom ceiling into the loft above. Yes that seems to be what it happening condensation is running back into the fan.

Is there sufficient gap under the door for the fan to draw enough dry air into the bathroom?
