    RCD protection for bathroom lights

Wouldn't this need to be done by a qualified electrician? I'm sure I could do it, but don't know if that leads to a bigger problem. Isn't that an alteration to the circuit? If I don't actually need to add RCD protection to stay within regs how compelling is the safety argument?

    RCD protection for bathroom lights

Thanks, that does clear it up for me. Unfortunately the ceiling is 2.2m from the floor!

    RCD protection for bathroom lights

The question then is whether the removal of the transformers from the circuit constitutes an alteration?

    RCD protection for bathroom lights

Thanks for all the replies, apologies if my terminology was inaccurate. That has perhaps left some doubt in my mind. So, just to be clear, replacing 12V down light fittings (halogen) with 230V down light fittings (LED) in bathroom zone 1 does not require RCD protection under the regs. Changing...

    RCD protection for bathroom lights

Hi, I've seen lots of answers to questions on this topic, but can't find a specific one for my situation. Our house was completely rewired professionally about 10 years ago. At that time the electrician installed low voltage halogen down lighters in the bathrooms. they were pretty poor quality...

    New Rayburn Problem

Many thanks for posting this link. Looks like it isn't too close according to the document - doesn't seem to be far enough away to stop the smoke fumes though :(

    New Rayburn Problem

Hello My neighbour recently extended their property (work not yet complete) and in the process installed a Rayburn in the new kitchen area. We did have a quick look at the plans during the planning stage but either didn't notice or hadn't realised the implications of the Rayburn (not sure it...

    Pressure problems on Firebird Combi

Well when we first had the problem the buidlers crawled all over looking for a leak in the underfloor heating system. It was pressure tested to 3 bar without a leak on installation. Haven't had the temp up that high at all. If it was leaking under the floor surely I would notice tiles lifting or...

    Pressure problems on Firebird Combi

Bore Hole pressure is generally higher than 1 bar, I can't remember without checking at what pressure the pump from the borehole kicks in. I suppose it's possible that it was just starting to fill the water supply pressure tank and the pressure had equalised at that point. I hadn't thought of...

    Pressure problems on Firebird Combi

It varies - during the summer it didn't need any attention, which is not surprising as the heating wasn't on, but may be relevant. Just now I an topping up once a week at least, if I leave too long the amber light comes on and it cuts out. This morning when I topped up there was a lot of...

    Pressure problems on Firebird Combi

Thanks for the reply. No black water when I bleed the radiatior - all rads and pipework are also only 3 years old. If one of the valves was leaking wouldn't I be able to see the leak and wouldn't one of the engineers have spotted it - or is it hard to find?

    Pressure problems on Firebird Combi

Hello I've read through related topics on the board but none seem to fit my problem. Just under 3 years ago I had a Firebird Combi boiler installed as part of a complete refurbishment of the property. From the very beginning we had problems with pressure dropping over a period of a few days...

    Weatherproof Junction Boxes

Thanks to all - good advice

    Weatherproof Junction Boxes

Thanks Qedelec. RF Lighting. The boxes are (1) to reduce an armoured cable to a 1.5mm flex and (2) seperately mount a wireless switching box which will take in 3 x 1.5mm flex through w/proof glands. All will be sited externally under a plywood and tarp cover, but obviously be subject to damp...

    Weatherproof Junction Boxes

Can anyone give me a tip on the best way of fixing / sealing a weatherproof box to a wall (externally, but in a covered space). I assume that the simplest thing to do is to coat the screw that fixes the box to the wall with a silicon sealant. Is that correct? Is there any particular sealant to...
