Can I use a 3 pin plug with a Nest Protect (wired version)

That's interesting - thanks. Is the Nest Protect the same size as a standard back box - e.g. is it likely to fit well with this? https://www.screwfix.com/p/deta-tte-1-gang-surface-pattress-surface-box-32mm/142vt

Can I use a 3 pin plug with a Nest Protect (wired version)

Would this do the job? https://www.screwfix.com/p/time-2192y-white-2-core-0-75mm-flexible-cable-10m-coil/826jy

Can I use a 3 pin plug with a Nest Protect (wired version)

I've just bought a couple of Nest Protect wired smoke alarms, but mistakenly thought that they would be powered by an accompanying power adapter. It turns out they need to be hardwired to the mains. Is there any reason that I couldn't connect a 3-pin plug and flex to it instead? (with a 3 amp...

Cavity wall insulation on ground floor of house only?

No I don't, but the surveyor stuck a camera into the cavity and it was empty.

Cavity wall insulation on ground floor of house only?

Yes I guess that's true. However at this point I think the only option would be a series of incremental upgrades. If CWI can't be cost-justified for the whole house, then room-by-room insulation - as and when we choose to redecorate each - will be to most practical approach.

Cavity wall insulation on ground floor of house only?

We've just had someone round to quote for CWI for our 3-storey townhouse. The basic quote was £1,900, but due to a very narrow side alley scaffolding would be necessary to access everything other than the ground floor. This would add £1,000-1,500 to the price. Our main priorities are 4 rooms: -...

Advice wiring up Ezviz DB1C video doorbell with Byron chime and transformer

I have an Ezviz DB1C smart video doorbell, and have bought a Byron 776 chime to go with it, as it was on the compatibility list for the DB1C (https://support.ezvizlife.com/en-us/faq/309). The Byron has an internal 8V transformer, but Ezviz have advised that the DB1C needs a 16-24V supply to...

How to repair Bristan handle on shower wall control panel?

Many thanks - I've managed to find an allen key and have managed to refit it. Unfortunately the 2-way diverter valve that it is supposed to operate seems to be jammed, so this handle is now effectively decorative only :0(

How to repair Bristan handle on shower wall control panel?

One of the control handles on our Bristan shower controls has become loose - see attached image. It looks as if a retaining screw has snapped (see the middle picture for what is left of the screw). Could anyone advise on where I might get a replacement screw, and whether any special tool is...

UPVC composite door not closing properly - latch hitting

Where would I put them? Do you mean drill through the steel plate into the woodwork? There's no room anywhere on the moveable part of the plate for screws ???

UPVC composite door not closing properly - latch hitting

I've just returned to this problem...so I've adjusted the hinges on the door at it looks straight - even spaces all around it. In order for it to close properly I needed to adjust the latch plate using an allen key - if I turn the top two keys anti-clockwise (to move the plate to the left) the...

Anyone know what to do with a ScaleBuster?

Thanks for that. Yes it seems to have caused much mirth here but I was really no wiser re. what to do with it. I've since found similar devices advertised on the web, but have no idea whether any of them have any merit. The one that I found must have been bought by the previous owner of my house...

Anyone know what to do with a ScaleBuster?

I've just found a magnetic device in a cupboard with "Scalebuster" written on it. I'm guessing that it's some form of de-scaler for mains water pipes. I attach a couple of images. Does anyone know how it's supposed to be used? https://imgur.com/a/UEINHpt

Testing a new induction hob before installation

OK...really dumb question...I'm trying to the open the terminal block on the underside of the hob and I can't work out how it opens - see photo. I've tried pulling up on the triangular tab (top right), but it's not budging and I'm a bit nervous of snapping it off. Has anyone opened one of these...

Testing a new induction hob before installation

Ah OK thanks for that. What I could do is put it on the gas hob, which should provide enough space underneath for the air to circulate?
