Our Miele washer-dryer failed to drain properly today, leaving a couple of inches of water in the drum. We eventually got rid of the excess water by running extra spin cycles, and opened the filter to release quite alot of excess water. The "waterproof system activated" message appeared on the display.
The filter is pretty clean and unclogged, and the impeller wheel at the back of the filter compartment spins freely.
The machine is very difficult to remove from its under-counter location, so we haven't checked the drainage hose yet.
Are there any other obvious things that we should check?
If it comes to getting an engineer out, is it best to contact Miele directly for this, or are they likely to charge an arm and a leg for something that a local firm can do at a much more reasonable rate?

I think you might struggle to find anyone other than Miele to repair your washer. but they do a fixed price repair if you cannot resolve it yourself.
If it is going through a spin cycle but not emptying complely it does sound like the waste is obsructed or the pumo motor is failing

Thanks for the feedback. I just looked up Miele's fixed price repair and it costs £289, which sounds like quite alot if they end up just telling me that it's uneconomical to repair :0(

I think I might try to find a local company who can check for blockages or leaks.

Does the waste pipe run into a spigot on the sink waste?

If yes, it is a bit icky but... remove the waste from the spigot and blow aggressively into it. If you see dirty water appear in the drum it could have been a build up of crud in the waste pipe.

I have had to do if a few times. I normally then recommend running a very hot wash every now and then.
