Also any recommendations for roof coverings I've always fancied a slate roof. The house is old fashioned clays which are really fragile so I don't want to go down that route. As I'm fitting solar on the roof I'm going to need to walk around on it a fair bit.
Thanks for the replies. I tried to install the 1st joist and it just won't go in. The existing rafters are only 50mm deep so there is little to no height for a ln 8x2 see the attached picture. For the span the rafters should be 5x2. I think I'm too far in now. Looks like I'm going to have to it...
I thought of joist hangers to drop the joists lower but I really wanted to bolt the ends to the rafters to create a triangle truss for strength. I'm probably only going to store light things up there so I don't think I'll be going over 0.25KN / m2. I'm not concerned about bounce or flex cracking...
I'm boarding out my loft in the garage. Currently there a 2x4's every 4th rafter acting as a tie. I've gone for 2x8 c24 joists at 450 centers to match the rafter spacing. It's a 4.5m span and I was wondering if I can notch the underside of the new 2x8 to sit them a couple of inches lower. As it...
Thanks for the info. I've cleaned it out about 6 months ago now it's gone again. Been fine for years before now. Could a change in detergent be leading to more deposits causing blockages?
Any ideas how to clean this part out. It's moulded and can't be opened. Full of gunk aNd keeps stopping the dishwasher from working. Gets stuck on drain cycle like the anti flood device is triggered. There is a small non return valve ball that's gummed up. It's from a Bosch sgs46e28gb dishwasher.
I've got a 2 bar negative head Stuart Turner pump, that just runs continuously. I've checked the pipe work and shower valve for any leaks and all is good. fitted a new circuit board, new pressure switch and 2 new non return valves. I've also removed and tested the flow switches with a magnet and...
A friend has asked me to change a tap for him. The ball o fix valve to the tap is seized. No surprise there, but the main stopcock in the kitchen, where the supply comes up is also seized. So I located the newly installed water meter cover in the street outside and the meter is lent over at the...
Thanks for the reply, I was starting to thing that I had the last one on the shelf before they went to E-Bus. The radiators were all balanced when the boiler was fitted and a few rads moved around about 5 years ago, Could it need doing again? I'm still only getting a temperature drop of about...
Humour me, but to keep the hot water tank at a reasonable temperature say 60C you would need a flow temp of at least 60c if not 65-70C to allow a temperature difference for it to transfer heat to the tank correct? But for my boiler to work efficiently in condensing mode I need the return...
I've been reading a lot online about boiler modulation and OpenTherm compatible, is that something my Worcester Bosch Greenstar 40CDi classic regular supports? Can't find anything in the manual or online, but it seems to have several spare connection inside the boiler wiring centre?
