New washing machine - cold water inlet connection leaking

Problem solved, by disconnecting and reconnecting after a slight re-positioning of the inlet hose. The space where the hose and pipework is quite cramped, and so the hose was being forced to lie at an angle, but we've sorted that problem. It's working fine now, no leaks :)

New washing machine - cold water inlet connection leaking

We've just installed a Zanussi 1680 washer dryer, according to instructions. There's even a downloadable instruction video from the website, and of course, it makes it all look so easy. Everything we've done is according to instructions, and it should be straightforward, but .... the cold water...

    Combi boiler/mixer shower advice please

There is a temperature setting on the boiler, but it only seems to control the water temperature of the taps. I turned it up full but it still didn't make any difference to the shower temperature. :( I can't see any hot water safety catch on the mixer shower. There is only one control which...

    Combi boiler/mixer shower advice please

I moved into a new build flat 3 months ago, all rooms are on one level. Ther is a combi boiler installed, Glow Worm 24 ci, and a thermostatic(?) mixer shower installed, Meynell v6. The problem is that the shower is never hot enough. The shower mixer tap only controls water temperature, cold...

Plumbing in dishwasher - leaking joins/connections

My husband has had an idea, somewhat along the lines that you have suggested, Towman. He wants to try using a bicycle inner tube, rather than the waterproof tape, in the hope it will produce a seal. Now, I'm never too sure about his sometimes whacky and convoluted solutions to problems, but I'll...

Plumbing in dishwasher - leaking joins/connections

We did buy longer hoses, but it was not possible to buy one complete hose for the outlet pipe, only the inlet pipe. The Bosch outlet hose seem to be narrower than a standard hose. The narrow end fits into the dishwasher and the wide end fits onto the outlet. It's too big, from what I can...

Plumbing in dishwasher - leaking joins/connections

My husband has just plumbed in our first dishwasher, a cold fill Bosch, one inlet, one outlet. He had to extend the hoses so that they would reach the inlet/outlet, and joined them with jubilee clips. Fine in theory, but in practice, after running the machine for the first time, the joins are...

Halogen lighting below kitchen wall units

Too late, mate!! I've already bought the halogen lights, so I won't be buying fluorescent lighting now :( Never mind. Fixing the lights to the units isn't a problem - done that already - but its what to do with the wires and the transformer. Looks like I need a valance. As...

Halogen lighting below kitchen wall units

I've just bought some halogen lights to fit at the bottom of my kitchen wall units, to light the worktop and to create nice 'ambient' lighting in the kitchen. My kitchen units don't have a valance below, although it's not a problem to buy matching valance, so I can do that if need be. When...

Shortening wooden venetian blinds - removing slats

Thank you, Masona. I used an ordinary knife that you would use to eat your dinner. The buttons came off quite easily. I followed the instructions and the blind is now the correct length. A success :)

trellis for balcony - 'how to' advice needed

I would like to put some trellis on the inside of my balcony for privacy and security, as the balustrade panels are made of a see-thru mesh - which are not very private. The problem is that ready made trellis comes in set lengths, so it would require 2 panels to fit the length of the balcony...

Shortening wooden venetian blinds - removing slats

Thank you, your instructions sound spot on. So, now I need to get to work on those button things at the bottom of the blind. I was concerned that they might be glued, but that's probably unlikely. Thanks a lot :)

Shortening wooden venetian blinds - removing slats

I bought some ready made wooden blinds, the width is OK, but it's the length that is the problem. A 160cm drop for a 93cm window. Being made of wood, they weigh a ton when I raise them just to open the window. I know it is possible to shorten blinds, but the bottom slat has some little...

Fitting venetian blind - recess fitting - metal lintel

Just to update you, we decided on another way. We attached wooden blocks to the window frame and hung the blinds from the blocks, which meant the blinds clear the window handles and the balcony door handle, and trickle vents. So, we decided in the end not to drill into the metal lintel, as it...

Fitting venetian blind - recess fitting - metal lintel

Thanks for your reply. I suppose I ought to give some more detail about the construction. The metal lintel over the window is within a wall made of breeze block. The top of the recess (as in the "finishing" is plaster board. If that makes sense .... So, we'd be going into the...
