I need to level off the joists with furring strips , theres gaps of around 5mm in between some of the joists Ideally id like everything flat ,not too fussed if it slopes a little I have some 50x25mm strips , what is the best way to level everything off so I don't have a wavey ceiling...

The loft was origionally built as a room with dormer window, I have replaced the joists as they were pretty badly sagging and I am re doing the plasterwork and it will be insulated with 50mm rigid board in the rafters leaving a gap behind for air circulation, then it will be plasterboarded ...

I don't know enough to give any real advice but i've just done my bedroom ceiling with help from this forum, I put the long edge against the wall, noted the difference between the short edge and the wall then cut the board end to suit , then i just butted the next board up square against that...

I bought a cheap (£70) sds drill set off amazon for removing plaster that came with loads of kit it's quite heavy and not the best but I figured i'd only be using a few times so was pointless splashing out, it's earned its keep though, stripped a 25m2 room with ease, removed a chimney...

damn, not sure what i can do about it now other than to remove the baord i just put in and plane a slither off the offending joist

ok, another slight hitch as i've got further over the room one of the joists is twisted and causing about and 8mm difference from the neighbouring joists, the board covers it ok but will this be noticable once all skimmed ? the joist is actually lower than its 2 neighbours so i could plane...

there's just the usual b&q, wickes, etc round here, none of the had any in stock according to their reserve & collect anyways the ruler worked fine and the board is in, with no cracking :) it was a little tedious but worth the effort so thanks to you and Rich C of your help, i'll get the...

I'll test it out on a scrap piece with a metal ruler for the scraper, I could really do with getting this bit up today

i'll give it a go but I don't think i've got anything I can put a rebate in with any suggestions for something cheap that can do the job?
