Hi, after a little advice please. I'm currently fitting a new kitchen where we have 2 air bricks sat below the base units. Kitchen has a solid floor, there'll only be a gas hob, but we will have an extractor taking everything outside. No boiler in the kitchen. The walls have a 60mm cavity, but...

    Cavity help

Hi, the wall was removed to place upvc french doors. Both inner and outer wall are sat on slate dpc. The joists sit directly on the slate dpc, there is no way of lifting them to place dpm. No signs of damp or moisture in the foundation or cavity. The cavity has some remnants of old mortar at...

    Cavity help

Thanks. I'll rebuild the inner wall between the cavity, leaving voids for the air to circulate through to the crawl space. Then fill the cavity with a insulation. Thanks again

    Cavity help

Hi, just wondering if any could point me in the right direction regarding this floor cavity please. House is somewhere around 1930s, I have a 50-60mm cavity where my joists run through the inner wall, and stop 5-10mm before the outer wall. There are air bricks on the outer wall, so assuming I...

    Which mortar type?

Sorry, i have no idea about sulphates. The path was laid towards the house, and those damaged bricks were just below ground, so could have frozen and blown? Would you still suggest 1:3? would we add any lime? Thanks again for your replies, i really appreciate the help.

    Which mortar type?

Hi, thanks for the reply. The house has been repointed with a cement mix at some point which you can see in the pic above the DPC, but that is only a few mm deep. It's more like a light skim. There was also some concrete attached to the DPC, which we have knocked off. The mortar below the...

    Which mortar type?

Hi, I'm after some advice in regards to mortar type. My son's house has a damp side wall, from front to rear, which i believe was caused by a poorly laid path. We think his house was built around 1900, as it has solid brick walls. Now the course of brick below the blue is in a really poor...
