Close coupled seal - flat or ring - info please.

Hi Exadon, thanks for the reply. In hindsight I wish I'd took some when I'd broken it down but at the time I didnt realise that the half round groove was there to accept a same shape O-ring style doughnut, I believe they are Ideal Standard/Armitage Shanks make. My loo as no identification names...

Close coupled seal - flat or ring - info please.

Hi all, I've had to remove my close coupled toilet cistern to replace an hard to get at fill valve ( I've only done this sort of job once before, about 13 years ago on a loo in my sons house ) The doughnut washer underneath was not bad at all, intact and spongy, and luckily I seem to have got...

Question re Wylex fuse box and new socket.

I know I can do it if I want to but dont want to do anything thats illegal/unsafe. No it's not got RCD protection, its a Wylex that was fitted in the 1980s. It has four fuses - a 5A for the lights, a 30A for sockets and two 15A fuses, one to a fridge freezer and one that used to go to the...

Question re Wylex fuse box and new socket.

Hi, I want to fit a single socket into the space under my stairs to connect a plugged 4W LED strip light and to charge a cordless vac.In my Wylex fusebox there is a spare 15W terminal that used to feed a long ago removed immersion heater. The cable from this 15W terminal goes into a junction box...

To cover dry mix or not?

Hi just had my first attempt at laying paving stones (only ten) on a bed of sub base and 5:1 dry mix. Should I cover them up or leave open to the elements? Frost is forecast for tomorrow morning. Thanks in advance.

    Laying a path - haven't a clue! Advice please.

Hi, the wife wants a small path next to a flower bed she's doing. I've done most diy stuff around the house but never layed a path so I thought I'd give it a go. I've seen the Wickes video etc on You Tube but I have no idea how much sharp sand, cement, or sub base material to order. Path...

Would installers have problems if I supply my own combi?

Hi awaiting quotes from local installers in north Manchester (not exactly queuing at my front door) to fit a new combi system into my house and have been lucky enough to meet someone from Bosch who can get the WB 28i Junior at staff discount. Daft question - would installers object to this and...

Old rads and power flush or new rads and standard flushes?

Hi - Halstead Best 40 boiler has popped its clogs so I'm getting a new Worcester B (choice of 2 models - Greenstar 24i Junior or 28CDi Compact) and would appreciate some advice re - 1. Halstead Best 40 will not ignite - damaged inition pcb.

Thanks very much slug...com, may have a look again tomorrow but following Dans reply and your advice and the wife pushing me to "sort this bloody boiler out" I'm reluctant to proceed. By the way I had a local plumber/heating guy in on the day after I had noticed the 1volt dc problem on the...

Halstead Best 40 will not ignite - damaged inition pcb.

Thanks Dan - to be honest I didn't read the small print but have now.I wouldn't have thought swapping out a pcb etc would not be allowed and so I think its best if I get my local Gas safe/Corgi heating engineer in to advise and fit/commission it etc and I will stick to the zone valves...
