    Ceiling not straight

Our kitchen ceiling rises slightly above the cabinets and bugs the hell out of me. I'm guessing the joists/boarding were slightly our when it was skimmed. In certain light you can see the line of the dip running about half a metre from the cabinet. If you were to attempt a fix on this how would...

    Fix bumpy plastering

When we had our extension skimmed it looked like the plasterer had done a decent job. It looked great after it was painted until night time when the lights came on and then we saw a lot of lumps and bumps in it. This is the worst bit on the sloped ceiling... Is it possible to fix this as a...

    Replacing old downlights

Thanks for clearing that up. Can I just ask what is the best way to take earth from this set up to the first light?

    Replacing old downlights

I'm just confused as to why the switched live would end up being black. Isn't that bad practice? Do I just leave it as it is? Final question - are the choc blocks OK or should I replace with a modern connector? Cheers

    Replacing old downlights

Down to two lights working now so planning to get this sorted pretty soon. I've been up to the loft again and there's 3 transformers each powering 3 downlights. What's confusing me now is that there's 2 twin and earth feeding a choc block which outputs live and neutral to the 3...

    Replacing old downlights

I have considered that but the ceiling is also covered with painted lining paper and there's an awful lot of other work required in the house which is more of a priority. I'm in Sale, Manchester. I was naively hoping this was just going to be a case of swapping the fittings out for new and...

    Replacing old downlights

Thanks. So in terms of wiring can I take the 240v feed from the transformer into a junction box, feed the first light and daisy chain the rest or is there a better way? What about the fact there's no earth? Cheers!

    Replacing old downlights

Thanks very much. There's 3 rooms with spotlights on this floor so does that explain the 3 transformers? Aside from picking new LED fittings and making the holes bigger to suit how would I go about installing? Can I do 10 lights from 1 single switch and is the insulation on top of them going to...

    Replacing old downlights

Thanks for the reply. I've just been up to the loft and I can see at least 3 transformers before lifting any insulation. I'm not sure if this helps at all but I've attached a pic. Not sure where to go from here.

    Replacing old downlights

Just moved in to a house where a previous occupier has gone a bit mad with spotlights. There's lots of them in every room. Room by room they are all different types colours and sizes and they all look dated, paint splattered and have halogen bulbs. I'm looking to start with replacing the lights...
