    RSJ on Blue bricks

I don’t know the answer to that Tony, but he specced 150mm bearing onto 215 x 100 x 100 3 courses blue bricks Its all changed now anyway - i took the plaster off to find that there was 6cm of plaster on the single storey kitchen side of the wall I’m taking out that was hiding a 100mm deep wall...

    RSJ on Blue bricks

That was original thought stuart. Guess I will have to wait for my BC guy to get back to me! He can then say whether Class B solid engineering bricks will suffice too!

Woody - Because I'm being thick - when you say "stack" I assume you mean with mortar in between?

    RSJ on Blue bricks

Thank you Woody. The Padstone specified was 215mm x 100mm x 100mm or 3 courses blue brick. So just need to chop out 3 courses of brick 215mm in length. Fantastic. Tony - it is the internal leaf of an external wall. The other leaf already has a lintel in it, I believe from when the houses...

    RSJ on Blue bricks

Universal Beam 1.8m length 1.46 opening in single leaf wall. Supporting walls are 350mm and 400mm wide. SE has specified 3 courses of blue bricks rather than a padstone. Do I get the brickie to lay the 3 courses in normal brick pattern, or are they stacked one on top of the other? Given...

Insulating a loft with open cavity to roof tiles

Refurbishing a 1900s house that has been empty since 2004. The roof is pitched slate over batten ( and that's it!). There is no loft insulation at all, so am going to fill in-between ceiling joist and over with 300mm of loft insulation. However the external walls have an open 50mm cavity...

    Insulating suspended timber floors

Sorry - i meant the bottom of the joists. the vents are at the joist line hence why I’m fitting the flexible vents. the polyethylene barrier was to prevent any potential draughts, although if I’ve fitted it correctly there shouldn’t be any.

    Insulating suspended timber floors

Hello all, looking for a little advice. I am insulating two ground floors. Both are suspended timber on 100mm joists. One has an undercroft, the other is over a basement which has a lathe and plaster ceiling. For the undercroft is there any reason that I cannot fill with 100mm celotex...

Is there a pushin flange for a 7" clay spigot

I was pretty impressed with myself - especially when i could still get my knee up to my ear hole to put my foot on the ground from inside the hole AND push myself out! I do have work shoes and boots it’s just that I hardly ever remember to take pictures of beforehand!! Once I’ve done the...

Is there a pushin flange for a 7" clay spigot

I hired a chain pipe cutter in the end. One cut perfect - once I’d worked out how to get it tight on the pipe. The second shattered near the collar but thankfully it all chipped off the other pipe. All done. I’ll post a pic later including footwear!
