Air lock in hot water system - help!

Yes, you are right - don't waste time (and water) draining the cold header tank when you could use bungs to block the flow. That is the other thing I learned. My friendly local plumber was nice about that too. Jerry

Air lock in hot water system - help!

Thanks for the thoughts. Had to call in the professionals (my friendly local plumber Dave Halpin from Gasworks London) in the end when i realised I definitely had air in the hot water cylinder (caused by running the shower when the cold water header tank was empty, thus pulling air into the...

Air lock in hot water system - help!

I had to drain the cold water tank to fit a new thermoelement in my Grohe shower. When i refilled the cold tank i discovered I have an air block in the hot water system. I think this is most likely because I ran the shower before the cold tank was full. I have tried many methods to...

Noisy central heating pipes (ecotec plus 428)

The domestic hot water is timed for 30 mins after the heating. This morning that was 7.15am. I don't think a valve is faulty. When the boiler is firing and the pump is running is when the pipes are noisy / ticking. I have tried turning all the rads off except the bedroom and ensuite to...

Noisy central heating pipes (ecotec plus 428)

My open vent system boiler (ecotec plus 428) is a year old. It replaced an old back boiler. The system was fully flushed. The system is much more efficient (as you'd expect) but I have a very annoying problem. The pipes underneath my bedroom floorboards are very noisy (a loud ticking noise...

Am coming round to the idea of repairing rather than replacing. Misterdubya the job is in Ealing. I'm a longtime lurker but only signed up to ask this query of you professional Gas Safe engineers. The advice has been refreshing and persuasive. Getting quotes for a new boiler is like...

Replace Baxi Bermuda Back Boiler or Repair?

I would say the leak is slight. I wasn't aware of it before it was serviced. But now I can hear the small 'explosive' sounding drops on start up but I can't hear them once temperature is reached (unlike the last time the HE was replaced). The BG engineer said it was the HE, not the gasket...

Replace Baxi Bermuda Back Boiler or Repair?

My house is heated by a Baxi Bermuda 675C back boiler. BG tell me it's from 1977. They refused (First Inspection) to take it on a Homecare contract (stated heat exchanger leaking) but quoted to replace the heat exchanger (in writing part number 364574) for £436. I've used the boiler with just...
